"Broken Battery - your battery capacity is 48%"
I have a thinkpad x201, with the extended battery that gives me many hours of battery time.
Yesterday, it apparently sat loose while working and the laptop died. I take out the battery and back in and we're back in business. Except now, KDE tells me "your battery capacity is 48%, this means your battery is broken and needs repair or replacement." And it's been discharging rather rapidly since.
What the hell? Is there a fix for such a thing? It doesn't seem like such an event should cause such a radical hardware failure.

Your battery is broken. If you still have warranty on it, get a replacement (warranty on batteries is usually much shorter than on the computer itself). Otherwise, buy a new one. I am no stranger to this problem, I had two batteries fail on my previous laptop, and I already have my second battery on my current one, but it's also failing. I have no idea why they keep doing that.
