I am not having sound on hdmi output to my tv which i use a an external monitor. I have tried to follow the installation method over in the ALSA wiki and the Pulseaudio but still no results. Also i have been searching for an answer all over the web for the last week and even here in the arch forums but sadly i havent had luck. I have an Dell inspiron n4110 laptop.

You really must provide more information. The exact instructions you followed in the wiki's, the exact hardware in your laptop - everything so that people reading your thread will have some clues to go on. See Forum Etiquette, specifically How to Post.

To start off with, in a terminal, install inxi:
With root privileges:
pacman -S inxi
Then post the output of:
inxi -GA
That will provide your graphics and audio hardware. Post the full output of that command.
Edit: You can optionally install "xorg-xdpyinfo" and "mesa-demos" for inxi to get better output from it.

If you are using a display port to hdmi adapter, that adapter could cause this problem. I had one adapter that worked fine with my laptop, and one that didn't.
