Weird screen barrier and size

So I noticed that my cursor was falling below the toolbar.  I started to play around with it and found this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CitmZAUuf2Y
As you'll notice, there is a weird barrier to the right side, by the record button on the toolbar. It should be noted that all the black areas are not areas I can see on my screen.  I don't know if this is because I didn't configure recordmydesktop properly (just installed it to make this) or if it is part of my problem.  Obviously I shouldn't have that barrier or that black area underneath my toolbar.  This is my laptop http://www.amazon.com/HP-Envy-dv7-7240u … uctDetails and you will see that the screen resolution is 1600x900 which is what arch auto selects.  I've never had a problem with it till today.

What I did today.
Earlier I hooked my computer up to a projector and messed with that screen resolution (never touched the laptop screen resolution). Interestingly enough, it had a black area that was visible below the toolbar.  Though in that case I was not able to bring the cursor into that area.  I've restarted my computer between this time and I have done updates.  I actually didn't notice this problem till the afternoon and didn't really test it till just recently.  So it could have been happening longer, but I really doubt it.

I am really confused as to what is actually happening, and I can't find anything on the wiki.  All my googleing leads me to different topics.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Weird screen barrier and size

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/xo … ze_and_DPI

not sure if this will help but you can try setting the display size and dpi manually

http://dpi.lv/

you can use this link to find your dpi

Although we still wont know what caused it to get messed up in the first place, my guess is that if you set it then your display will be fixed.

Re: Weird screen barrier and size

Oh and I should also mention that if you change your dpi in x you may want to change it in KDE as well. However, my dpi is 138 and that is not a "friendly" number for font-scaling. So in KDE I made the font 125 (default is 100). The result is the typical larger font like you get in windows if you bump fonts from 100 to 125dpi. But since the screen was changed to 138dpi, leaving the font at 100 makes it look smaller, so changing to 125 was an effort to return to a readable size. The end result looks very nice. Also you can tweak KDE fonts from 11 to 11.5 or 10.5 for more adjustments. You get the idea

Re: Weird screen barrier and size

I'm not sure what to say, but the problem magically fixed itself.
This bugs me a lot actually.  And I am still interested in knowing what may have caused the problem and how it was magically fixed, that is if anyone knows.
