Well it is not the best place but there is none better!
With big pleasure I saw kde 3.2 pkg is out and with a beautifull pacman -Syu I decided to update the entire system!
Surprise surprise, kde has several file conflict!!
hecking package integrity... done.
loading package data... done.
checking for file conflicts...
error: the following file conflicts were found:
/opt/kde/bin/kfmexec: exists in filesystem
/opt/kde/include/kbookmarkimporter_crash.h: exists in filesystem
/opt/kde/include/kbookmarkimporter_ie.h: exists in filesystem
/opt/kde/include/kbookmarkimporter_opera.h: exists in filesystem
/opt/kde/share/icons/crystalsvg/16x16/mimetypes/gettext.png: exists in filesystem
/opt/kde/share/icons/crystalsvg/32x32/mimetypes/gettext.png: exists in filesystem
/opt/kde/share/icons/crystalsvg/48x48/mimetypes/gettext.png: exists in filesystem
.................
I guess it is safe to force the update or is bettere to remove the entire kde package and install it again??
P.S.
In the forum I think would be nice to have a section under package for "package upgrade"

pacman -Suydf
apt-get install arch

I have to force a nodeps install to get it running?
Isn't that a bit brute? Though it seems to work, I don't feel well by doing it...

a simple -Suyf should work too (that's what i did)

I rebooted to runlevel 3 to stop X and upgraded KDE from 3.1.5 to 3.2, had to manually remove 3.1.5 first because "pacman -Syu" resulted in:
error: the following file conflicts were found:
/opt/kde/bin/kfmexec: exists in filesystem
/opt/kde/include/kbookmarkimporter_crash.h: exists in filesystem
(... about 200 files ... all about "exists in filesystem")
Same problem as you had .. or still having
After I removed kdebase and kdelibs the install went smoothly.
To other users of KDE 3.2:
Do you have any problems? I noticed that Klipper leaves two entries uncleared when I clear history. Not a good thing if you copied some passwords
And the desktop icon for NFS doesn't work anymore. Konqueror says:
incorrect URL
file:
the ~/Documents/NFS is exactly the same as before and it worked before.
Otherwise, I'm really happy with 3.2.

You are right, it's my way of thinking, either the normal way or the hard way Show that script who's boss

Yeah, 'til the day the script messes up your whole system and shows you who's the real root.
Anyway, kde 3.2 is running now.
