The upgrade of wxgtk from 2.8 -> 3.0 has broken the gui of the p7zip package as accessed from a file manager (dolphin), with no message. Executing p7zipForFilemanager from a terminal gives:
/usr/lib/p7zip/7zG: error while loading shared libraries: libwx_gtk2u_core-2.8.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directorylooking in /usr/lib showed that the libwx_gtk2... package had been upgraded to 3.0. Downgrading the package to 2.8 fixes the problem. Another fix is to install the 2.8 package from the aur

My question is if any one knows a reason why having both of these packages is a bad idea, 2.8 and 3.0?

pacman -Qi p7zip, check the optional deps.

I didn't notice that and I thought I looked. Thanks. Should this still be an optional dependency though, considering that it breaks without it?

given the package description "Command-line version of the 7zip compressed file archiver" i'd argue the gui as a whole is the optional part

I have it installed and didn't even realize it had graphical capability!
Maybe it could be split into two packages, but you'd have to talk with the maintainer about that.
