Err, what? So did you manage to get Catalyst working with xorg 1.15 or not?  I noticed when updating, it started throwing warnings about still needing xorg 1.14 when attempting to upgrade to 1.15, so I thought I'd hop over here and ask around before I did something stupid like a partial upgrade.

You have to use the [xorg114] repo to avoid upgrading to xorg-server 1.15 and break Catalyst. Read the Catalyst page on the wiki.

Ah, that clears it up.

If you did add xorg114 repo above all the others and still don't see packages in mentioned versions then let me know, maybe there's some bug.
Edit: ohhh... seems that your system is not fully updated, try to find the best mirror and install newest packages including libgcrypt 1.6.

Ah yup changed mirrorlist and got it up to date. Now another issue.

I still get "unable to open display (null)"
When I do startx, it outputs a bunch of stuff and terminates. I'll see about setting up pastebin or something to post the log file tomorrow. It says something about xterm not found.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

After I updated everything (for the second time, first time I just haphazardly updated everything, but xorg, so I had to downgrade).
Anyway, I added xorg114 repo and upgraded everything, but after the upgrade KWin couldn't use OpenGL to compose windows, so I changed to XRender. But now I'm getting strange artefacts.
I checked if I built fglrx module and I did, so I have no idea why OpenGL wouldn't work for KWin. I even tested if 3D games in wine work (on Warcraft III, which is OpenGL based) and it does.
Any ideas?

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have similar problem like @Primoz.
KWin crashed when my os start.
I have installed catalyst-total-hd234k and xorg112.
Arch is x86_64 up to date.
I change KWin use XRender but didn't help.
Any ideas?

I would suggest to stop X/DE before removing amdpcsdb. If that won't help then maybe removing kwinrc* files will help (performing backup of those files is the better option, you will find kwinrc* files inside ~/.kde4/share/config/).

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

So I deleted amdpcdb, at least one of them. There were amdpcdb, amdpcdb.current and amdpcdb.default. I removed the amdpcdb.
I've also removed all the Kwin files. I did this outside the X enviroment, yet OpenGL still doesn't work with Kwin. But I have yet to see any glitches, as I did yesterday.

Remove amdpcdb.current as well, remove both amdpcdb and amdpcdb.current, only leave amdpcdb.default. Sorry, I forgot about .current - im not using temp-links-catalyst.service since some time...

If only I know... I searched through many log files and found nothing, then decided to remove amdpcsdb and it served me well.
But tell me are there any problems with opengl apps/games?

There you go. Is your machine a guest machine? If not remove it, if yes - ignore this pkg from updating in pacman.conf

If you don't like uncomposited DE, you may temporary switch from opengl to xrender. Anyway are opengl games/apps working? Because it was working for me even when kwin wasn't able to render with opengl. If it's not working for you then problem probably lays elsewhere and is different from the problem which touched me.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Hi everyone,

I started using Arch recently, and trying to install fglrx drivers.

I download the relevant file from ATI webpage, and started installation. I received the error

fglrx installation requires that the system have kernel headers.  /lib/modules/3.12.7-2-ARCH/build/include/linux/version.h cannot be found on this system.

I ran pacman -S linux-headers, and completed the installation but I got the same error again. What might be the cause of it?

Cheers.

Hello,
try following the instructions on the wiki : https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AMD_Catalyst
If you're new to arch, you might find the wiki really helpful for any problem you might run into smile

Heya Violo.... the return function does not accept negative integers (-1) in the /etc/authatievents.sh which leads to *extremely* large journal file ,p

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

ghait.. a system reboot should fix it.. there might be some confusion since you are running the previous kernel, whereas the install package is finding your new headers.. of course, there might not have been a kernel upgrade as you are doing this but dunno.. try a reboot.. and if you can install but fglrx doesn't want ot build modules (this is not unusual, due to how mkinitcpio order works), then just run manaually mkinitcpio -p linux one more time.

It looks like peptid is using ati's installer, not catalyst-hook, mkinitcpio won't work. While being here I have realized that... let me quote...

Vi0L0 wrote:

@snack:
you can turn off the hook with:

catalyst_build_module hookrm

but yes, it could be a good idea to leave mkinitcpio untached when installing catalyst-hook and leave user decide if he needs it or not. It should be done with the next catalyst-hook update (although upgrading will not disable it, so you would run mentioned command on your own).

... that leaving mkinitcpio untouched after catalyst-hook' instalation will cause `mkinitcpio -p linux` to not generate fglrx module. Keep it in mind please, especially when suggesting this to newcomers, because the day of catalyst-hook' update is getting closer every day ;P.

catalyst_build_module all

will still work though, faster than mkinitcpio.
