Hi All,
I have a basic question that is not really arch related. For my birthday, my wife is going to give me an iPod nano. I don't think that I need itunes because I simply want to copy my CDs to it and listen at work. I would also like to use it for basic file transfer. Are there arch packages that can do this or do I have find a PC on which to load itunes?
Thanks
Kevin

There are plenty of apps available for linux to use an iPod. gtkpod is a good one

There is also gnupod which is a bunch of perl scripts. Its useful for me on my server because i setup samba and mt-daap, so my brother can put his music on it. His ipod doesn't work on his xp system for some reason and he won't reformat it no matter how many times i tell him.

And as we're talking about it, I did a PKGBUILD for gnupod a while ago, for another user. He hasn't got around to testing it yet, and I don't have an iPod (also, my birthday is way off in June... ), so maybe you'd like to have a look. If someone can tell me it works, I'll put it in the AUR.

Well, when I actually get the iPod, I'll test it for you.

Thanks - I had a feeling you wouldn't be able to do it any sooner.

Though it's aimed at a different market, you might also take a look at the Neuros Audio. It's very open-source friendly, and so is the company. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, I'm just a dude who wishes he had one of those instead of a gen3 iPod.
