X doesn't start any more after testing upgrade

After last testing upgrade, X doesn't start any more automatically at boot on my system. The last line I see before the console login appears is something with "x" respawning...

That means that something's broken in X and it can't start XDM.
You'll need to boot into runlevel 3 (there's a way to specify this on the kernel line in your bootloader, but I forget it -- you'll need to search) then check your Xorg.0.log for error messages

If you start xdm from within  inittab, you'll need to change the path.

xdm in xorg7 doesn't work at the moment - see bug #3707.

I get the "respawning" message too, but my X starts OK, so that's not the problem. The log will tell you what you need to know.

Is it safe to assume that you made the required changes to your xorg.conf?

Re: X doesn't start any more after testing upgrade

The xorg.conf is ok, at least it doesn't cause a crash of X. If I log in as user on the console and enter "startx", everything is fine.

In the /etc/inittab, I now changed the line "/usr/bin/xdm" to "/opt/kde/bin/kdm" now X starts again. Seems to be a problem/bug with xdm.
