splashy-full won't build (git)

when i try to build splashy-full (bootsplash program) through yaourt (+ git) i get:

Cloning into 'splashy'...
fatal: The remote end hung up unexpectedly
fatal: early EOF
fatal: index-pack failed

And then makepkg fails saying "A failure occured in build()"

how do i fix?

Re: splashy-full won't build (git)

Comments say that it doesn't work with systemd anyway, are you sure you want it?

Anyway, try cloning it manually to narrow down the issue:

git clone git://anonscm.debian.org/git/splashy/splashy.git splashy

Did you try the PKGBUILD posted in the comments? It's actually updated to somewhat a modern format, the other one is old.

Re: splashy-full won't build (git)

urgh... splashy doesn't work with systemd? then i think i'll pass on it after all sad

I wanted to use plymouth, but that thing is just broken (need version 8.50 for it to work, latest versions won't work)

fbsplash is outdated and won't build, fuck having a bootsplash, i'm just going to stop trying to install one now.

At least i got a working display(login) manager and a cool grub background, that'll just have to do.

That's what the last commenter says. I don't know myself, never understood the point of a splash screen.

Re: splashy-full won't build (git)

There really is no point, it's just eyecandy smile

Like a theme or background image in grub, or login/display manager. None of them serve a purpose except being flashy. One could argue that the display manager is for user friendliness, but i'd argue that any idiot can login from tty and type startx.

I guess though that it does have a purpose, bootsplash makes things look less intimidating for Newbies, (however not many newbies use arch) this is probably why it's essential to have on the more mainstream, noob friendly distros like noobuntu and mint.
