If you want to use catalyst, remove the ati drivers first.

You need to uninstall the ati-dri package if you are going to use AMD Catalyst because the kernel modules will conflict and nothing will work.
I don't know about the latter, but the lib32-catalyst-utils package should provide mesa-libgl.

What happens if you press Alt-Ctrl-F2?
If that doesn't work, you can use a liveCD / liveUSB and chroot into your Arch installation.

i removed xf86-video-ati.
I think you meant you removed a package, not a file. What was the exact command you used?

i just uninstalled it via pacman, dont know why i didnt try that in the first place! then i was able to uninstall "ati-dri" and install the amd driver. To get the ccc working i installed the "lib32-ati-dri" package. it worked but unfortunately i think i configured something wrong along the way because the system was not using the driver and fell back to mesa. I have now found that using the ati-dri is fine now, i went about a odd way of getting it working to a good standard, as flash videos were really choppy and my computer would just get a random inactive black screen.
removed the catalyst driver completely
I forced the downgrade of ati-dri to an older version with "pacman -Ud" , then installed xf86-video-ati-git with yaourt, and then upgraded ati-dri again, rebooted and my computer and it works sweet now! Maybe a daft way of getting my system working but it seemed to work! so im happy
