You PKGBUILDS for llvm aren't really up to date, are they?
http://pkgbuild.com/~lcarlier/mesa-git/ … n/PKGBUILD
Doing things with libLLVM-3.4svn.so or so...

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Thanks, but sources still contains a radeonsi.patch which is not on the webserver (but isn't applied anyway) and --libdir=/usr/lib/llvm-3.4svn, but I don't think --libdir does anything, or does it?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Hi, I hope this is right place to ask this question, before I start to do something stupid tongue
I have quite old (but still good) Radeon HD4770. Is it possible to run some OpenCL powered apps or demos on this card using open radeon driver?

I made some test using pyrit and I get error like this:

fatal error: cannot open file '/usr/lib/clc/rv770-r600--.bc': No such file or directory

Libclc-svn and mesa-cl packages are installed. I need some other libs/compilation options/patches or there is simply no support for my card?

N0rv, i think you're out of luck.
The HD4770 uses a chipset from the R700 family , check http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/GalliumCompute/

Not sure if mesa-git or the libgcrypt update is at fault. Any ideas?

Probably because of glamor-egl-git rebuild. Try to install glamor-egl from extra repo, it should fix your issue.

Next time a log from xorg can be useful to track the problem....

I've removed glamor-egl-git from mesa-git repo. You must install glamor-egl from extra repo which is enough currently

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Since a few days mesa requires a newer libdrm git to build. Could you update libdrm-git and lib32-libdrm-git?

And sorry for repeating that: Wouldn't dri3 be ready to test by now?

libdrm-git and lib32-libdrm-git updated.

dri3 was disabled because some source games weren't working anymore, just tested and it seems fixed, so i've reenabled dri3 support and rebuilding is on the way.....

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Thanks, very quick response smile

So I guess for intel it's just not in git master right now:

xf86-video-intel-git (git)-[master] % git log | grep -i dri3
With the advent of DRI3 (and previously with Prime and Glamor) we have
Everyone else will just have to wait for DRI3.
source texture being show by the compositor. That is a subject for DRI3.

but there are patches for almost 2 months now... http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/x … 39136.html
For xf86-video-ati I don't see anything but maybe it's handled by glamor? But xorg.log says "glamor: EGL version 1.4 (DRI2)"...

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

As far i know dri3 is "intel only" feature by now.
For R600 more needed is gl3.3 than dri3 or speed up glamor3d for SI driver. I don't see any benefit with dri3 for amd gpu (it's olny my opionion).

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Radeonsi now has opengl 3.3 support. Great news. I have a HD7950 @ 1100/1500; with 3.13 kernel and latest packages from this repo, I can now run Unigine-Engine and Pcsx2 emulator!!! Steam games (Half-life saga and Left 4 Dead 2) are quite playable. Dota 2 works perfect. I hope opencl support arrives soon (¿Blender?)

Yes, great news, but I installed https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mesa … eonsi-git/ and I still have 3.1

Yes... you need llvm from git...

Use this repo for all needed packages:

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

agapito, keep in mind my mesa-r300-r600-radeonsi-git uses different configure flags then the packages in lord Heavy's mesa-git repo.

marazmista, i'll look into adding aur llvm-svn pacakge as  a dependency for mesa-r300-r600-radeonsi-git .
(It used to depend on llvm-amdgpu-svn , but i switched to official  llvm when amdgpu was included in stock version).

I'll also look into enabling the opencl configure flag for mesa.

For those wondering about differences between LordHeavy's mesa-git and my mesa-*-git packages :
mine are targeted at radeon cards using the gallium driver and enabling configure flags not in official package .
Lordheavy's mesa-git is closer to a git version of official mesa and supports more cards then radeon.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

I have a r600 mobile card. I heard OS drivers got much better, so yesterday I ditched catalysts and installed regular drivers. I got some problems, like inability to resume from suspend, but power management seems fine and I get GPU temps on similar or lower level than with Catalysts.

I am now installing mesa-r300-r600-radeonsi-git and I wonder if there is anything else I should do. I read few last pages here, and the first post.

I run the command from the first post, and got

$ LIBGL_DRIVERS_PATH=/usr/lib/xorg/modules/dri_g/ glxinfo |grep -i opengl
libGL error: failed to load driver: r600
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
libGL error: failed to load driver: swrast
libGL error: Try again with LIBGL_DEBUG=verbose for more details.
OpenGL vendor string: X.Org
OpenGL renderer string: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RV635
OpenGL version string: 1.4 (3.0 Mesa 10.0.2)
OpenGL extensions:

Is that an issue?

EDIT:

So I installed the drivers and X won't start with it. I mean it does starts but the screen remains either black, or with a blinking "_" in the top-right, with the same 20-radeon.conf file, as non-git mesa X starts fine.
What helped was changing      Option    "AccelMethod"   from glamour to EXA.

Do I lose anything by not using glamour? And why glamour would not work with this version of mesa?

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Lockheed, that command in the first post is no longer needed at all, as mesa doesn't have classic drivers anymore for r300 and later cards.
So even with stock mesa you always use gallium, just run glxinfo without any parameters.

As for the problem with glamor :

on newer cards glamor is now enabled by default (it's used to improve 2D accelaration) , and there are indications it may be used on older cards in the future also.

try starting without any 20-radeon.conf , does X work then ?

please post Xorg.0.log from starting without 20-radeon.conf ,  20-radeon.conf & Xorg.0.log from a start with 20-radeon.conf .
We need info to help troubleshoot.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Ok, I'll do that in a sec. What do you mean by  "older cards"?

In the meantime, I have a question of piping to conky the output of

$ cat /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/radeon_pm_info
cat: /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/radeon_pm_info: Permission denied

Unlike /sys/class/drm/card0/device/power_dpm_state, this file can be cat only with sudo, but I can't do that with user conky. I had a look at permissions of this files and it is listed as other users can read it, so I don't understand.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

@Lockheed: take a look at this if you experience hangs on boot when using dpm. On my mobile RV620 dpm is still unusable and I have to stick with catalyst.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

@snack, that is not my problem. I am on rv635, maybe it makes the difference

@Lone_Wolf

xorg log without 20-radeon.conf. Boots fine

20-radeon.conf

Section "Module"
	Load "dri2"
	Load "glamoregl"
EndSection

Section "Device"
	Identifier "RV635/M86 HD 3650"
	Driver	"radeon"
Option	"SWcursor" "off" #software cursor might be necessary on some rare occasions, hence set off by default
Option	"EnablePageFlip" "on" #supported on all R/RV/RS4xx and older hardware, and set on by default
Option	"AccelMethod" "glamor" #valid options are XAA, EXA and Glamor. Default value varies per-GPU.
Option	"RenderAccel" "on" #enabled by default on all radeon hardware
Option	"ColorTiling" "on" #enabled by default on RV300 and later radeon cards
Option	"EXAVSync" "off" #default is off, otherwise on. Only works if EXA activated
Option	"EXAPixmaps" "on" #when on icreases 2D performance, but may also cause artifacts on some old cards. Only works if EXA activated
Option	"AccelDFS" "on" #default is off, read the radeon manpage for more information
	# useful option description: http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Radeon#AccelDFS
EndSection

As I mentioned, when I edit Option    "AccelMethod"           "glamor" to "EXA", X starts fine - I am now writing from it.

Re: Discussion: the ati/radeon open source drivers & radeon repository

Not sure why glamoregl crashes, but it gets activated because you have Load "glamoregl" in modules section.

If you compare both Xorg.0.log files, you'll see that EXA is default choice for your card with auto configuration.

Since dri2 is autoloaded if needed, there's no need for having  a modules section in 20-radeon.conf .
You might alsow want to check on option accelDFS , as the log states that is not used with git version.

------------------------
glamor is used by default on cards using radeonsi driver, r600 and r300 driver use EXA by default.
For those cards you can enable glamor, but it's entirely optional and can lead to problems.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

Ok, but are you saying to remove it completely, including    Load "glamoregl"  ?

Also, as an ex-Catalyst user, I have two unrelated questions.

1. Is there some utility to manage power profiles of ati card? I tried setting it up with a power script to use "battery" when unplugged, and "balanced" when on AC, but with your drivers it gets overridden on high GPU load and it jumps to "performance".

2. Fullscreen Flash works really bad on those drivers. On catalysts, I could go full-screen and retain fluidity of youtube even on 720p. With OpenSource drivers, it works OK if the YT video is in a window, even if it takes 90% of the screen, but as soon as it jumps into full screen, the frame rate  drops to like 1-2 fps.
Is this normal with non-catalyst drivers?
