Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Got answer:

Andy wrote:

If you build Xorg-server and only have libgl as a makedep pacman would pull into a clean chroot the first package providing libgl. This could be nvidia-utils or something else in our repos. But we want to be sure to build it with mesa-libgl. This is why we change it to use mesa-libgl.

Seems reasonable. But I still would like to not provide mesa-libgl, it would be a lie, and confusing. Especially when its so easy to change xorg-server's PKGBUILD entry.

As for the 14.1 - seems like another worth checking release. I've heard of performance gains (some of them looks very good, check flims post #27 at this page) and bug fixes.

All right, I'm also not compiling xorg-server every day. wink

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

blender guys noted that 14.1 is better: http://devgurus.amd.com/thread/160162?s … 0&tstart=0

edit: [catalyst] repo is updated, and new archive one created: [catalyst-13.111]
I will be afk for a 5 days, hope that i didn't make any noobish mistake :>...

Aha. Thanks for your comments. I assume amdcccle works for everybody and you guys don't want to bother with it.
Removing /usr/lib/ati/lib64/libQt*.so.4 and create symlinks to local qt4 installation fixes it but i assume nobody is interessted in this funfact.

/usr/lib/ati/lib64/libQt? Where did you get that from? AMDs installer isn't the best option, guess that noone here is using it and it's probably the reason of why there was no answer on your question. Please follow the wiki next time.

Sorry for my newbie question...

Can I install catalyst 12.08 with pacman?
If yes: How?
Thanks

P.S. I've set xorg112 and catalyst-stable.

It's too old to be supported by me. I don't have that much time (and disk space on the servers), sorry sad. But I can help you in other way.
You could take the src from here: http://catalyst.wirephire.com/tarball/12.8/ , lets say catalyst-total.
and aim it with patches from here: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/cata … tal-hd234k
This should give you the package with up to 3.13 kernel support, also you gonna need [xorg112] repo.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have a problem with new package:

'lib32-catalyst-utils-14.1-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz' from mirror.rts-informatique.fr : The requested URL returned error: 404 Not Found

There isn't any lib32-catalyst-utils-14.1.-1 in the repository.

[EDIT]
Now works!

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I just tested the beta driver before with 14.1 beta in Unigine Valley and... what the hell is going on? At 1920x1080 (windowed), 8xAA, Quality high, I got more than 100% more fps with 14.1. 28 fps instead of 13.6 fps. What the hell, AMD? Please keep it that way.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have a 7870, that is one with this GCN thing?

Edit: Well, OpenGL and stuff works great, but I can't watch videos anymore. Starting mplayer, vlc or such with an mp4, mkv, avi, whatever file keeps getting my xserver (1.15) resetting... That hurts.

Edit: To be more clear: Watching videos with VLC using OpenGL is okay, but some other renderer keeps killing my xserver. Not in the mood to find out which, now.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Ok, just noticed something strange here.  Not sure whether this is a KDE issue or Catalyst issue, but it seems as though if session restore is enabled, KDE will only restore applications with windows on the primary display.  If they're placed on the secondary display at the time of log out, they are not restored.

I have a 7770, and an 8650G I have had no problems using this configuration file (vo=xv is the video driver):

# Write your default config options here!

ao=alsa
vo=xv

VLC has a hate-boner for me, so I can't help with that at all.

EDIT: I am using catalyst-total from the AUR, and xorg114-testing if that helps.

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

Anyone know if Gnome3 with Catalyst is fixed yet?

EDIT: I did try searching, but i'm only seeing catalyst-legacy posts
I run cgminer on this pc, and newer catalyst has been performing better for that so i dont want to switch to legacy

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I am using the latest catalyst-test from the AUR and KDE logs me out whenever I try to play a video with mplayer. Was working before I updated catalyst

Same with Kaffeine et al.

my mplayer config (video output)

vo=xv

UPDATE: Video playback works on mplayer with this config:

vo=gl or vo=gl2

Using latest catalyst-test with xorg-server 1.15

KDE doesn't log you out, the xserver crashes (and restarts). Same for me, btw, same solution (with VLC).

I'm using Cinnamon on Arch, I too experience crashes with VLC on 1.15 on kernel 3.12-9

I've got the strangest pink/red tint on a few applications after the latest Catalyst/xorg updates. Anyone else noticing this?

Is anyone successfully running 14.1-1?  Everyone's posts here make it sound super buggy and I'm avoiding updating.

I'm running it with KDE 4 and a 5870. Seems to be OK so far.

It's been working perfectly for me, save for non-opengl video decoding. Though if you don't want to deal with that single hiccup, I'd just wait on updating.

It's working here for me with 3.13-mainline, 3.13-core, 3.12.x-ck/lqx and 3.10.28-2-lts-ck.

I managed to fix that by running amdcccle and checking "Use display's setting" under "Color Temperature".

Re: The AMD/ATI Bar & Grill

I have a couple of problems (on my Lenovo G505s):

1. I have suddenly lost backlight control, and I can't figure out why. No errors, and the tools pretend to work. re-booting does not help.

2. AMD Overdrive cannot control clockspeeds, voltages, or fan speeds. Lenovo decided that allowing users to control their hardware wasn't very important to say the least.

These issues aren't urgent, but I would be interested in finding solutions to them.

What version of X Server are  you running?  If you're super up to date as such, I'm assuming 1.15?
