[SOLVED] Blank screen since full update Lenovo T420

I just did a full update after a couple of months on my Lenovo T420. The update was successful, no errors reported. I decided to reboot for good measure because the kernel probably changed. I was met with a blank black screen right when the BIOS hands it off to arch, no usual scrolling messages. I've waited over 30 minutes on it, no hard drive activity.

Ctrl-Alt-Fx don't work.

How do I proceed from here? I assume I can load some livecd and look up a log somewhere. Where should I look?

Any help is appreciated.

Edit: I was able to boot into it by rolling back to the previous kernel 3.12.1-3. However, now it gives 'Failed to Start Load Kernel Modules' during boot.

Edit 2: The error message is gone after I downgraded tp_smapi to 0.41.39
