[solved] Gray screen after login with GDM.

I have played around with .Xrecources and .Xdefault and apparently i broke something; after login I have a gray screen.

How may i boot without starting X11 to reset my Xrecources?

When the grub bootmenu shows I hit "e" to edit the boot script and editet the runlevel acording to this wiki page: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … /runlevels

I wanted to do: # xrdb -remove

But it says "can't open display ' '"
Any tips?

I dissabled gdm and is now able to login. Startx works and I awesomewm loads.

How may I be sure what caused the problem?
GDM is the only thing i removed.
