Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG state UNKNOWN

Hi,
I'm fairly new to Linux as well as Arch, however, I've been able to get wireless working on several other laptops.  This is the first Intel 2200 install I've tried and I don't know why the wirelesss state is UNKNOWN.  After doing quite a bit of seaching I'm not finding any info on my particular problem.  Can someone help?  Here's what I have:

05:04.0 Network controller: Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05)
    Subsystem: Intel Corporation Device 2741
    Kernel driver in use: ipw2200
    Kernel modules: ipw2200

Installed this firmware: ipw2200-fw which shows wlp5s4 when running ip link

Ran # ip link set wlp5s4 up

Now I get this UNKOWN state:
3: wlp5s4: <BROADCAST,MULTICAST,UP,LOWER_UP> mtu 1500 qdisc pfifo_fast state UNKNOWN mode DEFAULT group default qlen 1000

Any help is appreciated!  Also, if you need me to check log files, etc. can you include the commands?

Thanks!

DHeck
