sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

Hi,
i would find it greate, when the package "sshfs" could included in the arch installation media (archiso).

I'm using the arch installation media oft, to boot up a "empty" computer with no internet connection. I than i want to "install" (via rsync) an existing arch installation to it.

Ok, i could create an own arch iso, or boot the other computer via usb stick (i tried it, but it's very slow), but downloading the latest iso every month is much simpler wink

Greetings,
Sebastian

And why exactly do you need sshfs to use rsync?

Re: sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

mkdir /mnt2
sshfs user@sourcecomputer:/ /mnt2
rsync ...options... /mnt2 /mnt

Do i oversee an important hint / feature of rsync?

But on the other hand: its not only for rsync. Its for some other file operations, too. For that, there is scp, but it has it's restrictions. And the "find" command needs a normal mountpoint.

Re: sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

Have you tried 'rsync -options /source/ user@somemachine:/destination/'?

Edit: For all the other stuff, have you tried openssh?

Mounting a remote filesystem with SSHFS
Please refer to the Sshfs article to use sshfs to mount a remote system - accessible via SSH - to a local folder, so you will be able to do any operation on the mounted files with any tool (copy, rename, edit with vim, etc.). Using sshfs instead of shfs is generally preferred as a new version of shfs hasn't been released since 2004.

So, for some file operations, sshfs is requied / or the more comfortable way- that's why i opend this topic.

sshfs is very small - it't not too big for the archiso compact disk.

Re: sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

Last year a user asked to include clonezilla https://mailman.archlinux.org/pipermail … 03306.html It depends on (among other packages) sshfs.
It didn't go anywhere.

Can't you just install sshfs when booted into the archiso?

Maybe the LAN has no Internet connection? He can install it from a USB, but it would be easier to just include it on the iso.

Yes it did; clonezilla is now included, so is sshfs not on the latest iso?

My bad, clonezilla is indeed on the list: https://projects.archlinux.org/archiso. … kages.both , but sshfs is not. I wanted to be smart and searched only for sshfs.

Re: sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

To be fair, there was no follow up email, but it did happen smile

So clonezilla will pull that in as a dependency, so Arakis are you just using an old iso?

I think it is in the archiso... I just booted the iso via qemu and tried to install it and it is there.

Re: sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

Ah, so the list doesn't include dependencies? It's pretty short, so I should have noticed it.
Thanks, jsteel & WonderWoofy :-)

Edit: parted is a clonezilla dep too and it's on the list ...

Re: sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

parted (and also gptfdisk, partclone and partimage) was added before clonezilla, so either 1) they don't care 2) they haven't noticed or 3) they'll keep parted (and the rest) listed, so if clonezilla is removed in the future (hopefully not!) they won't have to remember to add parted (and the rest) again.

Re: sshfs should contained in arch installation media (archiso)

My last used arch install media is from 12/2013, it contains no sshfs.
