Hi All,
I would first like to say I'm pretty new to Arch, as I've just come from the Ubuntu side.
I currently have a ATI HD 6950 Graphics card. Last night I installed my system fine, however the only thing that let me down was the huge amount of screen tearing. (I made sure I updated my system to download the Free Driver)
anyway, after rebooting it still had the same issue, so I thought I would download the proprietary drivers from AMD. Howerver this made no differnce.
I was just curious if anyone had any suggestions on what I could do? Thing is, when I was running Ubuntu I never had any of these issues, so surely its a driver issue?
Also, I have a 3 screen setup, so some say that having the proprietary drivers may help?
Any suggestions would be great!
Thanks!

Just to say that I have an HD7770, and I also have a lot of tearing. It's not horrible, but when playing a video (with totem, vlc, smplayer), or youtube, it is there.
Both with open source drivers or catalyst.
So a solution would be awesome

I don't experiment any tearing issue under KDE. This is my config:

Radeonsi driver @ HD7950. I am not using a custom xorg.conf file.
Excuse my poor English.

Hi Both, thanks for your answers,
I think I may have found a solution. I meant to say that In my post that I thought it was a V-Sync issue where as all my tearing was well, vertical... Heres what I found out:
If you go to the "Window Manager and tweaks" section, in settings: Go to Compositor > and check "Synchronize drawing to the vertical blank".
I think this has fixed the issue for me...
I don't get any screen tearing now... and joanmanel, take a look at this blog post I found, it might help you:
