[SOLVED] how to set gummiboot default to windows?

I finished setup the new laptop to dual boot win8 and arch ,so far so good, I can't find a way to let gummiboot default to windows though, arch is the first and I set default to "windows boot manager" 1 etc, since it's found automatically by gummiboot, I can't find a proper name, what label should I use? thanks

The wiki doesn't tell you what to set as default for entries that are auto-generated. i.e windows and osx

You can set the boot order using efibootmgr.

Arch + dwm   •   Mercurial repos  •   Surfraw

Re: [SOLVED] how to set gummiboot default to windows?

It doesn't seem to detect other Boot Managers.

BootCurrent: 0000
Timeout: 1 seconds
BootOrder: 0000,0013,0019,001A
Boot0000* Linux Boot Manager
Boot0013* INTEL SSDSC2CW180A3
Boot0019* ST9500420AS
Boot001A* WDC WD15EZRX-00DC0B0

I tried changing the order to 0013,0000,... because my intel ssd has both installations and my system could not boot.

I'm dual booting Arch/Windows 8.1 with UEFI/GPT.

Edit: also, if you change the order, then wouldn't Gummiboot simply be bypassed?

Re: [SOLVED] how to set gummiboot default to windows?

yeah, I tried all that, and after confused a lot and I went back to read the efi documents, and figured it out

windows boot manager is at the same level with gummiboot, so the efibootmgr adjust order between them, the order I want to adjust is after gummiboot is running, so I have to add a windows entry (win8.conf) under entries dir like

title Windows 8
efi /EFI/Microsoft/Boot/bootmgfw.efi

and in loader.conf default to it.

downside is there're two entries in menu, anyway it works, thanks everyone for input.

Re: [SOLVED] how to set gummiboot default to windows?

I just finished setting up an Arch/OSX dual boot with gummiboot and came across this problem, too. Dare I say it, but the gummiboot web page was actually more up-to-date and helpful than the archwiki was.

When in gummiboot you can print its config with "P". Through this I found that gummiboot adds OS X with an  entry called "auto-osx". I tried setting that entry as default in loader.conf, but nothing happened (so I'd assume you won't have success setting the auto windows entry, either)...

...however! You can actually press "d" on an entry to set it as default (pressing "h" gives you all the available keymaps). This saves the setting in a non-volatile EFI variable (lasts through a reboot) that will override your loader.conf and works with the automatic entries. Press "d" again to clear the variable.

Sorry to post in a solved thread, but I hope this helps.
