Hello,
First, my apologies for my rubbish English .
I have a laptop with Nvidia's Optimus technology inside.
The following screeshot show what is sometimes happening on my screen.
Theses "dashes" appear very briefly and I was lucky to succeed to take a shot.
I use bumblebee and bbswitch. I hope someone has already got this problem and solved it.
It often happens when i use applications which needs to refresh the screen a lot, for example blender, the irrlicht engine and even firefox.
Thanks

Bumblebee and bbswitch are considered hacks if you use a recent kernel. Try to use a v3.14-rc kernel and see if it helps. Xorg should be new enough to handle that.
And maybe check dmesg?

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I made up my mind to remove bumblebee and i am now using the primus support of xorg. But I still have the problem.
I relied some strange messages at boot, which i can recover by using dmesg command.
The messages involving nouveau driver are:
[ 13.862852] nouveau [ DRM] VRAM: 2048 MiB
[ 13.862853] nouveau [ DRM] GART: 1048576 MiB
[ 13.862856] nouveau E[ DRM] Pointer to TMDS table invalid
[ 13.862880] nouveau [ DRM] DCB version 4.0
[ 13.862882] nouveau E[ DRM] Pointer to flat panel table invalid
[ 13.862914] nouveau [ DRM] ACPI backlight interface available, not registering our own

[ 13.868087] [drm] Initialized nouveau 1.1.1 20120801 for 0000:01:00.0 on minor 1
But I don't know if it helps

You should report those to the nouveau mailing list or their IRC channel. Those are errors and could be related to what you are seeing.

I did .
But seeing that i have the problem both with and without bumblebee, it is possible it doesn't come from the nouveau driver, because i used bumblebee with the proprietary nvidia one.

Did it appear with the nvidia blob?

Hi,
This is the reply from the nouveau mailing list :
The VBIOS is composed of, among other things, a bunch of tables. There
are pointers to where those tables live in the headers. This is saying
that the pointers to a few of the tables are invalid. If this is not a
laptop and does not have a DVI/HDMI output, it should be of no
concern. Further, if things work OK, I wouldn't worry about it either.
I conclude that these messages don't matter in my cas, but black dashes are still here.
Did it appear with the nvidia blob?
What do you mean ? I had the problem even with the nvidia official driver .

If you also have it with nvidia, then it might either be a genuine hardware defect. OR, the nouveau driver is copying bad and buggy behaviour from the nvidia driver.
I suggest you use the nvidia blob and create a bugreport for the nvidia devs and see if they can fix it. Then the nouveau devs can pick up on that.

Ok thank you very much .
