I use several Pearson e-textbooks that work on Ubuntu, but don't work on Arch. On the Pearson Browser check page, firefox 27.0 is "unsupported" for both Ubuntu and Arch, and I've checked that adobe flash and oracle java are up to date, so I'm wondering what Ubuntu would have by default that I'm missing on Arch that the etext would need.
This is the same problem as this: http://askubuntu.com/questions/289253/h … untu-13-04
I'm thinking this might be a flash problem since the error is error #2046, and there are links about how to fix that, which have tried but without restarting the browser. I will try restarting the browser, then reinstalling flashplugin, then I will repost with results.

Just tried the fix at http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1007636 , but it didn't help. Also reinstalled flashplugin, didn't help. The book depends upon flash, and the error is 2046, so I'm wondering if Ubuntu has some sort of flash optimization...

This is a wild guess, but you could try installing 'hal' from AUR and starting it with "systemctl start hal.service". I need to do this to get the Flash player to work correctly with Amazon Prime Video, so maybe your application is doing something similar.

ColdPie: I just installed hal-info and hal, and ran hal.service, but the error 2046 still pops up. I'm thinking I might try running firefox in wine and see if that fixes it.

I installed wine, windows firefox, and windows flash, but the browser crashed while loading the textbook. I tried youtube videos but they also crashed. I'd rather use firefox natively anyway. Still don't know what ubuntu has that arch doesn't and pearson needs...

I encountered the same problem after installing Ubuntu on a 2011 macbook air and putting awesome on it. The textbook worked when the firefox partition was on a shared data drive, but stopped working after I moved the profile back to the ubuntu partition. This means either moving the firefox profile or using awesome instead of unity does this... I tried installing chromium(browser) but the same error happens.
