[SOLVED] Suspicious sound playing randomly

Hey guys,

I recently noticed a sound playing on random occasions and it got me very suspicous as I hadn't changed anything on my system. I tried to follow it back to its root but I couldn't find the sound anywhere on my drive. I managed to actually record it by recording all my audio output until it occured again. I will upload it for you guys to check out. Maybe I am just hearing a system sound and worrying without a reason. Though after checking the /usr/share/sounds folder I realized it didn't come from there. So it's even more weird.

Here is the sound: Sound

I wish someone knows what's going on this is giving me sleepless nights.

Thanks in advance,

szt

Re: [SOLVED] Suspicious sound playing randomly

No, the only apps open are Firefox and vlc which I opened for recording. I kept pavucontrol open for quite some time now and the sound played 4 times or so already. It did not open a new playback stream in the pavucontrol window. I assume it is some sort of system sound. But how is it not listed in /usr/share/sound?

Re: [SOLVED] Suspicious sound playing randomly

Update:
I found what was causing it!
It was NoScript in Firefox. It seems to play this sound whenever I open a page on which there blocked scripts. That is really annoying though.

Sorry for stealing your time. I'm stupid >.<

This can be tagged solved I guess.

Re: [SOLVED] Suspicious sound playing randomly

Open NoScript Options
go to Notifications Tab
uncheck "Audio feedback when scripts are blocked"

It's nothing to be ashamed of. In fact your discovery will probably help some people having a similar problem. Also, it was entertaining to read tongue
