Severe colour banding/X running in wrong bit depth after update

After the last kernel update, I've noticed ugly colour banding on the screen, as though the monitor was running on a lower bit depth than normal. Oddly enough, xdpyinfo seems to suggest that I'm running at the normal 24 bit depth; I've tried using a different X driver (On this laptop, X normally uses modesetting, I tried fbdev), as well as generating an X config file and forcing the DefaultDepth of the screen to 24. Neither has worked.

This laptop is an Eee PC 1201HA, with a gma500 video card that was working fine under the gma500_gfx kernel driver previously.

Where does it occur - the web browser, some image viewer, you desktop icons / toolbar?

Re: Severe colour banding/X running in wrong bit depth after update

As far as I can tell, everywhere. It's only noticeable on images with some colour gradient on them, of course, but I checked and I can see it on Chromium, Ristretto, my desktop background, and mplayer. The problem also manifests no matter what DE/Window manager I run.
