I just ran -Syu a couple of minuets before that and updated other packages so wireless and pacman are working. The repos also work with the other packages as well. Just not the meta packages. I am not crazy right? You guys see it too?

Which is why I am so confused. I can install the infinality packages and everything, but just not the ibfonts packages.

@RibShark, I am not sure if this is going to solve your problem, but it is still worth checking out.

I have been using the new Inconsolata OTF release from TeX Live team and I think this is a pretty decent release. Here are the updated packages (incl. fontconfig) you can install and test with your piece of software:

otf-inconsolatazi4-ibx (the Type 1 package will be removed automatically)
fontconfig-infinality-ultimate: i686 and x86_64

Besides, replace your current /etc/profile.d/infinality-settings.sh with the new one from /usr/share/doc/fontconfig-infinality-ultimate/freetype.

Please, report back if this has helped.

A new update is waiting for you to be installed.

From the CHANGELOG:

* fontconfig-infinality-ultimate & infinality-bundle-fonts
** added 30-metric-aliases-foo.conf for each font collection 
   (should improve document portability depending on the default 
   font set)
** updated fc-presetsg
** added support for Gelasio font (TTF), the new metrically
   compatible replacement for Georgia
** removing Inconsolata-zi4 (Type 1) and added support for
   Inconsolatazi4 (OTF)
** multiple update to several fontconfig *.config files

Additionaly, freetype2-infinality-ultimate comes with the new infinality-settings.sh (installed as *.pacnew, so please overwrite the existing one). It is substantially very close to what you have been using so far, but I hope that a few glitches (eg. kerning issues) should be mostly eliminated now.

After you have updated fontconfig-iu, please run 'fc-presets set' and re-set the preset for your default font collection. This way you will activate the 30-metric-aliases-foo.conf.

I just want to point out that for anybody who was using Inconsolata-zi4, the new package actually calls it Inconsolatazi4.

I updated, opened a terminal and thought "Hey! What happened to my nice terminal font?" That is what it turned out to be.

In any case, great work as always bohoomil! Things continue to look fantastic.

Anyway, I should have mentioned that there was a little change in the font name, too. Thanks for pointing this out.

I seem to be having some problems with the quality of my font rendering all of a sudden. My fonts do not look as crisp and bright as they used to. It seems to have happened after updating fontconfig-infinality-ultimate (2.11.0-15 -> 2.11.0-17) and freetype2-infinality-ultimate(2.5.2-4). The update to fontconfig-infinality-ultimate-2.11.0-18 did not help, nor did downgrading to the previous versions of the packages.

And if I reinstall all of the vanilla versions of the packages, the rendering has the crispness and brightness that it did before the update. Reinstalling the infinality packages brings back the poorer rendering.

Any help would be appreciated. The strange part is, that I have another machine with up to date infinality packages, and the rendering is the same as the first picture.

@SolarBoyMatt, @agahnim, I realized it yesterday that one of the files--infinality-settings.sh to be exact--was not uploaded in its most recent version (should be: 0.4.7.1, was: 0.4.7). The intended one provides a cleaner look and I have just uploaded an update to the yesterday's update. Besides, there are a few minor changes to the infinality-bundle-fonts collection and fontconfig-ib that you can pull as well. Of course, if infinality-settings.sh has been installed as a *.pacnew file, please go to /etc/profile.d and remove the suffix. Just for the record: restart the X for changes to become effective.

A little side note: there may be a little difference between the previous and current infinality settings. This is due to the fact that in order to eliminate a few issues we used to experience, I had to re-create the settings mostly from scratch. Preserving the old look was certainly my goal, hence the testing took several months. Still, as the whole set of parameters was changed, it is possible that a little bit of the former feel can vary. On the 'good news' side: infinality settings is what I am constantly tweaking so as soon as I attempt to get better results, I will make them available, as I always do.

I do enjoy the direction that this seems to be going in then I do really like it, it just seemed to be broken partially on my machine and thought I had a problem. Hi, seems that latest update broke somethink on Japanese text rendering (in Chrome), the comma and the full-stop characters are up right instead of being left down. (Also note that I get garbage in the tab title).

Is it something in Chrome ? Or can you do something ? (Sorry to bother you if it's only a Chrome bug)

No problem. I guess it may be the beta Chrome. Take a look at Chromium from the official Arch repos: Chromium + ja.

BTW, freetype2 has been updated to 2.5.3 by the upstream. freetype2-infinality-ultimate is already waiting for you in the ib repository. Please, do not forget to replace your existing infinality-settings.sh with the new one (v.0.4.7.3). Enjoy.

Nope. I have just checked it again and the picture is still correct (I am using freetype2-iu 2.5.3-2 and fontconfig-iu 2.11.0-19). Try running

fc-cache -r

which should remove the entire fontconfig cache and recreate it afterwards. This sometimes helps to solve weird font issues.

The tab shows how Chromium / Chrome deals with charset detection… In Firefox everything is OK and so is in dwb (webkit2) as they both switch to Shift_JIS, which is required by this particular site. Chromium switches to Shift_JIS for web page content only, but the UI remains either UTF-8 or some Western encoding (presumably ISO). I'm afraid there is no cure for that…

Besides, I think you can check out "Advanced font settings" add-on (go to Chrome's font settings and install it clicking on the "Advanced font settings"). It can really make life easier when you need to customize fonts for any script.

There are some people that had the same bug, and the fix they applied (69-language-selector-YOUR_LANGUAGE.conf) file works for me also. See last comment.

To test out, I put that file in the conf.d, named it 69-language-selector-ja-JP.conf directory and edited to :

Thanks for the careful examination of the case and the bug reference -- it was something I did not know about. Actually, it was pretty easy to locate the culprit file: I just had to revise the way fontconfig-iu handles non-latin content (93-final-lang-spec-free.conf to be exact). Now both the content of the site and the UI should render correctly. You can also safely remove the 69-foo-ja-jp.conf file as it is not needed any more.

All you need to do is update fontconfig-iu (rev. 21) which has been already uploaded to the repository.

Thank you once again for your enormous help and checkout if Chrome / Chromium is working as expected now.

With one of the recent updates the style of code fonts has changed. The font appears to be a lot smaller. Unfortunately I do not have any older screenshots for comparison but this is how it looks now:
