Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

After leaving Arch and going back to slack for sometime I started to miss the ol girl. A LOT! So  I broke off a small chunk of my hdd space and installed her again. Just a simple KDE install right now but will get my dwm configg back and going shortly..

I switched to Awesome from Openbox a while back, but have only just managed to get my lazy arse into gear and actually get it configured properly:

The wallpaper was inspired by the old Intex Systems terminals in Alien Breed on the Amiga.

Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

@nullified How have you confugure ranger to show image previews while using true transparency? What terminal emulator are you using?

urxvt
image preview, ranger + w3m
transparency, compton

I added

set preview_images true

to the ~/.config/ranger/rc.conf

Let me know if it works. If not I will check to see if there is something else in the compton config

Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

Well the same options don't seem to work for, the space is reserved but no image preview when it should. Thanks anyway and a last question because we are off-topic. How do you set transparency in urxvt?

Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

@bendersteed

if you have compositing (such as xcompmgr) you can set it with this

urxvt -depth 32 -bg rgba:0000/0000/0000/dddd

I  too am interested in transparency and showing images in ranger... i can get it to show them as you listed unless using transparency with the command i posted for bendersteed
perhaps the answer is in how you set up your transparency

Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

@VanillaFunk
Using compton here and can have transparency but as you also observed then image previews aren't working. I asked if there were any quirks to get around it.

Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

It's been a long time since I last posted screenshots, so it's about time I do it again.

I try out other window managers and desktop environments from time to time but I keep coming back to XFCE.

The wallpaper is Sci-Fi Web by emilwidlund.

The XFWM theme is Rhapsodized.

The GTK theme is a slight modification of the theme from Manjaro (Hey, their theme is nice.

Icons are Faenza Dark.

I'm using AWN for a dock.

It's called Nova Cut. I believe it came with the Google Fonts package (AUR).

E18 with the default theme I have modified (see here https://github.com/cedlemo/Enlightenment_Theme_Notes ), with a custom module for the desktop names (https://github.com/cedlemo/tagslist) and with the pager module on the desktop.

Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

@VanillaFunk and @bendersteed

I've been exploring a few different WMs recently. I apologize for forgetting to mention that the transparency of the urxvt windows is set using a rule in the awesome rc.lua file.

Re: March 2014 Screenshot thread

@ Vanilla Fun and bendersteed

Why don't you use fake urxvt's transparency to be able to have preview images and some kind of transparency ?

Something like that will work with ranger :

URxvt*.transparent: true
URxvt*.shading: 10 ## 0 to 99 darkens, 101 to 200 lightens

XFCE is fantastic, so you have nothing to justify.

However, you might try Openbox within XFCE using Compton tongue Best of XFCE function, speed and configurability of Openbox, compositing of Compton. Just an idea...
