You aren't using conky are you? (I was and I was about to tear my hair out after UT FPS dropped a whole bunch...)

no dont use this tool
but why do u ask me ?

some monitoring tools every few seconds (normally) update and that can cause a delay. Conky may create a noticable delay and drop your fps. BTW online is going to drop more because ut2004 has to sync everybody on the server, bots don't seem to take as great of a hit. Try going into a server with about 10 people and see if it still drops

if i start my own server frames are fine
join an emty server (our clanserver or another) -> framedrop
nobody else play ut2004 and have these probs?

What kind of internet connection do you have? Connecting to a server that you make isn't really a good test, since you're just running it on your local machine. What kind of pings are typically listed for the servers you're trying to connect to?
Offline
2mbit dsl
ping under windows and linux is 24 to our clanserver
but the fps (online) under win = 90+ and linux = 60 with lag
it isnt a problem with the connecting to the server!

try testing out your connection with a speed test (dsl speed test on google) to see if its a bit slow. in console do
[david@arch ~]$ ping -c 10 www.google.com

to make sure there is no packet loss or errors.
If that is all fine I would say check another game that is online. last thing I would check is dmesg or anything else relating a driver problem.

haven't display the frame yet
does an et server only permit display fps if cheats are enable?
or can i ad this line: "/toggle cg_drawfps" to the start-command?
anyway i will test it out ;-)

Have you "preload player skins" enabled? If so disable it.
Empty your Cache.
If that don't help, try to delete your UT2004.ini and User.ini to let UT genrate default inis for you and try again.

I play UT2003/UT2004 with no problems under Linux. In the past when I had a DualBootSystem (Win/Lin) (must be in 2004 ) the felling was also better under lin than under win.
