Video playing issue

Problem: I am running Archlinux with the Cinnamon desktop environment and youtube videos and such will always say "An error occurred, please try again later.". I have tried different versions of flash and other browsers already, but nothing has worked.

Has anyone had similar problems and/or know of a fix?

Re: Video playing issue

What flash package?  What browsers? Have you tried pepper flash with chromium?

Re: Video playing issue

Fixed by installing optional packages. Thanks for the reply though

Great that your problem is solved smile

Now you can mark it as such by editing the title in the first post and prepending "[Solved]" so other people will know.

Re: Video playing issue

You could also write the packages you installed that fixed your issue smile

Re: Video playing issue

I had a very similar issue. for me, installing pulseaudio-alsa solved the problem.

It seems that newest incarnations of youtube / flash plugin / firefox / whatever seem to refuse to play videos when no audio sink is configured.

in my case, the video started playing for about 1s (without sound) before the error message appears.

Re: Video playing issue

I solve these issues by having a .asoundrc 'just in case'

[ tye@t: ~ ]$ cat .asoundrc
#grab everything and direct to pulseaudio
pcm.pulse {
    type pulse
}
ctl.pulse {
    type pulse
}
pcm.!default {
    type pulse
}
ctl.!default {
    type pulse
}
