[Solved] xf86-video-intel in testing causes freezes [intel-dri-git]

Edit 3/23/2014: This issue goes away by not using the out of date package in AUR, intel-dri-git. I was using both intel-dri-git and libdrm-git. Switching both of those back to the standard dri-git and libdrm solved the problem. I can use the testing repositories again.

Since 3/19/2014, experiencing terribly trouble with graphics - mainly on trying to startup a desktop. I normally use Xfce, but decided to install DWM since it barely uses any graphics, but it also couldn't start most of the time. It was just starting the graphical display that was broken. When after many reboots it would actually start, most everything was reasonably fine. Just now, I gave up on testing and downgraded everything back to standard Arch repositories. I have a core I5 with HD4000 graphics.

I am having a different issue with xf86-video-intel 2.99.911-1 https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/39546
I haven't yet checked upstream bug reports or created a new one (I'll do it in a couple hours) - have you?

xf86-video-intel 2.99.911-1 works ok here on a 32bit system and at times I'll have multiple $DISPLAYs running...

└──╼ lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

I use a urxvt package from the aur not the one in the repos though.

Which one?

I'm using an ancient graphics card:

$ lspci | grep -i vga
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 01)

Re: [Solved] xf86-video-intel in testing causes freezes [intel-dri-git]

OK - I finally submitted a bug report upstream: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=76514

In making the bug report, I realized that I'm using some relevant packages from AUR, one of which was flagged out of date half a year ago: intel-dri-git. I'm going to see what happens when I switch from intel-dri-git and libdrm-git back to simply intel-dri and libdrm.

Re: [Solved] xf86-video-intel in testing causes freezes [intel-dri-git]

Solved! xf86-video-intel works fine as long as you aren't using out of date packages from AUR. Switching to intel-dri and libdrm fixed it so that I'm not experiencing slow startup of X under xf86-video-intel 2.99.911.

I will update the bug report, but it's still a bug because it should require newer versions of those packages. I think it was just intel-dri-git that was the issue.
