Kaboodle cannot play streaming movies

Well, here is the stupid bug behind KDE's spectacularly broken embedded media support. In the screenshot below, Kaboodle *should* be playing the famous "synchronized Christmas lights" video. It sees the video... But it doesn't play it, and acts like there is nothing to actually display. Here:

Observe what's going on:
1. Kaboodle is (supposedly) "playing".
2. The duration given for the movie is obviously incorrect.
3. The movie is not being displayed.
4. There is no console output at all, despite the obvious problems.

However, when saved to the hard drive (or to tempfs) and played, nothing goes wrong, and the movie is played without a hitch.

What I've documented above applies to all movies of all formats. It also occurs whether or not I start a user session of dbus along with KDE (the latter having solved my problems with the Totem plugin).

I submitted a report on KDE streaming media troubles via Flyspray, but it remains unconfirmed and unassigned, so it would seem that my troubles are unique. Could someone explain to me what I've screwed up?

Re: Kaboodle cannot play streaming movies

I don't think you broke anything, I just tested the video on the link from the screenshot, the same happens here.

I tried the installed media players, kaboodle didn't do anything like on your screenshot and noatun just crashed every time. Kaffeine works fine thou.

Re: Kaboodle cannot play streaming movies

Kaffeine likes to crash Konqueror though, and its plugin doesn't support a lot of stuff, so I'd prefer to use Kaboodle.

Does anyone know how to get this damn thing working?

Re: Kaboodle cannot play streaming movies

*bump*

Can anyone else confirm this? The problem with Kaboodle is the cause of bug #3765, but that bug remains unconfirmed. If anyone can reproduce this bug with regularity, and/or provide some insite into its cause, please confirm the bug and add a comment at the above link.

I left a comment on the bug, but I have no idea how to confirm it...
