AMD r7 260x not working properly with radeon (and now catalyst) driver

Hey There,

i got me a Asus R7260X DC2OC 2GD5 and i'm not amused.

The performance is really bad, because GPU and Memory clock is always on the lowest state and doesn't change.
When i use any pomer management method the desktop works fluently but artifacts appear and sometimes the system freezes. With catalyst this never happend.

Had somebody similar problems?
Is the card broken?

My guess is, that the radeon driver support for BONAIRE chip isn't very good at the moment.

Get catalyst drivers. open source drivers are very bad, but first you have to downgrade your kernel to 3.12 up to 3.13.0 . I have same problem. You couldtry installing linux-lts from pacman.

You don't need to do that.

Try the catalyst-test package, and that works with kernel 3.13.

now i went back to catalyst (from Vi0L0s repository) and it's nearly good.

Only vaapi is making me angry. Some in-browser-flash work, some not.
And 2d performance isn't very smooth.

I take it you've had a look at this for VAAPI on Arch: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/VA-API and https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/libva-xvba-driver/

yepp, this is what i tried:

VDPAU_DRIVER=va_gl
LIBVA_DRIVER_NAME=[fglrx, vdpau, xvba] (i tried all of them)

Doesn't make a change. Youtube is crashing and vimeo (plugin-container) gives 60-100% CPU usage.
Anybody out there with a working config for catalyst & flash acceleration?

Here is a log, starting firefox and a video on youtube: nopaste.info
The same with vimeo. Doesn't crash but gives high cpu load and video lags nopaste.info
