Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

Hello,

Recently there was GNOME Logs released which is a log viewer for the systemd journal.

https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gnome-a … 00097.html

Will it be made available in the official Arch repos or rather the AUR, if at all?

Re: Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

@WorMzy

Yes, that seems to be it. Thanks!

Yet it really seems to be in an early testing stage. Therefore I am waiting until gtk 3.9 is out.

[orschiro@thinkpad ~]$ sudo aura -A gnome-system-log-git
aura >>= Determining dependencies...
aura >>= Dependency checking failed for these reasons:
The dependency `gtk3` demands version `>=3.9.11`but the most recent version is `3.8.4-1`.

Re: Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

Those are different two apps, gnome-system-logs and gnome-logs

GNOME System Log and GNOME Logs those are different two apps.

You want GNOME Logs.
I try to build GNOME Logs, but I have a problem with run GNOME Logs:
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=709172

Note: in Fedora 20 GNOME Logs work fine.

I'm also interested in Gnome Logs for Arch. Any progress on this?

Re: Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

OK - it's in the AUR: https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/gnome-logs/

It's currently out of date. I tried editing the PKGBUILD to get the current version, but got the following error:

Requested 'gio-unix-2.0 >= 2.39.90' but version of GIO unix specific APIs is 2.38.2

What's gio-unix-2.0? It's not listed in Arch Packages or in AUR, but it is installed, apparently, but not a high enough version.

Re: Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

a search for gio in arch packages indicates that may be from the glib-networking package, which is indeed at 2.38.2 in [extra] .

glib-networking 2.40.0 is in the gnome-unstable repo, looks like you'll have to switch to gnome-unstable or wait until gnome 3.12 hits [extra] .

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

(A works at time B)  && (time C > time B ) ≠  (A works at time C)

What's the difference compared to gnome-system-log from [extra]?

@blackout23

https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Logs

I think mainly that it is based on GTK3.

That's exactly the same thing I have:

The difference is that the 3.10 version isn't as advanced but still picks up your pacman.log. Still it's GTK 3 as you can see from the headerbar.

Re: Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

Can it be that gnome-system-log is the same than gnome logs which would explain why it is marked outdated in the AUR?

Re: Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

gnome-system-log is the old program that shows log files from /var/log
gnome-log is the new program that uses structured logs from the systemd journal

Re: Will Gnome Logs become available in the Arch repos?

And Gnome-Logs is already in [gnome-unstable]. I have it installed. Works.
