Hello,
After using the i3 tiling window manager for a while (something like three years?), I got the bad habit of opening a huge amount of windows at the same time. (Currently, I'm using 31 and that is quite normal.) I often forget where I put my windows and just have to search through them. This is fast, as navigating through them is fast too. I am looking for minimalistic a full screen task bar, which I could open in a fraction of a second and click on it or even cooler would be a pentadactyl-like behavior. Someone has the same problem and has another solution for this? Probably the result will be after having managed this having even more windows opened...
Best,
maxmin

It's for xmonad, but do you mean something like GridSelect?

Thanks! This looks awesome! But I don't know if I am going to learn Haskell just for that, but that input is useful! It would be nice if there is a solution where I am not going to spend hours to get used to it. ;-)

I think this is what you are looking for. When I tried this it was WIP at that time. Please check if it is usable now.

You've added '/' before the url and now it links to https://bbs.archlinux.org/https://bbs.a … ?id=144720 which doesn't exit.
Correct link: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=144720

This is one of my primary issues with i3- when I have 50 windows spread out over 9 workspaces, it can be hard to remember exactly where you had everything. Then you must switch workspaces scanning with your eyes, clicking through containers, etc. Its not i3's fault though really.
OP, have you heard of quickswitch-i3? It uses dmenu to show all windows and then you can text search, click or arrow navigate through the list. Its good, but I just wish I could find something similar that lists the workspace number.
Basically, im looking for something like simpleswitcher that works for i3. Let me know if you figure out a solution...

After having been searching with yaourt about task switcher etc. I already came across quickswitch-i3, but this is not really what I am looking for. I imagine a full screen task switcher that could show you all windows in all workspaces arranged in a smart way like a column for every workspace. But this doesn't seem to exist. Telescope seems nice, but I can't make it work. There is skippy-xd too, but you can't go on a window of another workspace...
But anyway, thanks for the input! Maybe some day I will start to contribute code to the open source community and this could be a project to do.

If you like the idea of xmonad's GridSelect, you might wnat to try xwinmosaic, which is pretty much a standalone implementation of it.

Doesn't work for me in i3, all I see is a black window. Shipped in the same package xwinmosaic_run works, but it's a launcher.
