Hi,
I have been using awesome window manager for a little over a year now. Just today started getting this issue. The wibox seems to be misbehaving.
This is what happens. Note that the shutter (the blue wheel) icon has gone to the top-left corner. The screenshot doesn't show the cursor but it is where the text says "Firefox" but the calendar still comes out (it should happen when I hover the cursor over the date).
This is what it should be like. Note the shutter icon is on the right (where the systray is).

Although restarting awesome fixes the issue it recurs quite frequently.

What version of awesome? The recent 3.5.3 upgrade? I've been having some trouble with the wibox conflicting with the random wallpaper script that I see you are also using. Try commenting it out and see if that solves your problem.
I'm tinkering with it now to see if I can find an easy fix.

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, it started since the recent upgrade. Will try it out when I go back home in the evening.
UPDATE: Yup.After commenting out the randomised wallpaper script no issue for the last six hours.

Glad it worked!
It looks like this was the root cause: https://github.com/awesomeWM/awesome/co … 6ccd34984b
This has already been addressed in today's Awesome 3.5.4 so if you upgrade to that you should be able to uncomment your random wallpaper script.
p.s. mark the thread as solved if it does work fine in 3.5.4
