[Request] Comodo Antivirus for Linux

Hi!

If it's possible, could someone make and maintain a package from the Comodo Antivirus for Linux program?
It supports Debian, Ubuntu, Linux Mint, ReadHat, Fedora, CentOS, SUSE and openSUSE, but it only has binaries, no source code. I tried to install it from the .deb packages, but failed completely with several unresolvable dependencies. As for making an installable package I don't even know where to start, I don't recognize the file structure inside the packages which is made with deb2targz, also the dependency problem would not solve itself.

I'm not a programmer, so I can't go further.

As far as I know, this is the only antivirus for desktop Linux distros with actual real-time protection.

I'm pretty sure we've had this requested before.

My first thoughts were that it'd be possible if we had actual source files/binaries to work with (either a .tar.gz or .sh or .run or [you get my drift]).

Actually, it's probably possible based on what's there, but the problem is that those are pre-built for other distributions.

the problem there is they not probide a generic linux download.
maybe think is download the respective to the distro more closed to Arch and test in /opt throw manual extract and location.... if something need and onler version you are doomed..... else you can create a PKGBUILD for the package

Yeah, I uploaded a little prematurely, I was still making some last minute changes. Didn't think anyone'd notice.

Turns out the debs are just alien-converted rpms, so I've used the rpms as sources. Once you install it, you need to run /opt/COMODO/post_setup.sh as root (this was something I forgot to add to the .install file, so if you already downloaded, makepkg'd and installed, you'll probably not know this).

I'm not sure about the license, all I've been able to find is the website T&Cs which states that Comodo products are subject to "Subscriber Agreements", which I can't find any information on. I haven't run the post_setup.sh script myself (I'm still looking through it), so perhaps the agreement is presented to you there.

If anyone can shed some light on the subject, that'd be helpful.

EDIT: Ah, I was looking at the wrong file. The agreement is in the post_setup.sh, at the top.

I think I'll need to knock up a service file too, there's only an sysvinit script..

EDIT EDIT: The license doesn't allow me to modify the post_setup.sh script to replace the initscript calls with the systemd equivalent, it probably doesn't let me remove the superfluous libraries either, so those lines will be commented out for the time being while I liaise with their legal department. The realtime protection kernel modules also don't build on Arch's default kernel (not sure about the -lts kernel), so that won't work without modifying files (which again, is not permitted by the license).

The .desktop files may not show up in any menus either, not sure if I made a mistake there or not.

You can still run on-demand scans for the time being (once you've updated the database). You should enable sgdagent.service cmdagent.service after running post_setup.sh, and sdgdaemon.service cmgdaemon.service after updating your virus database. Start the application with /opt/COMODO/cav if you don't have a menu icon for it in your menu.

Thanks, WorMzy, much appreciated your work! But I get an error when I try to enable or start both sgdagent.service and sdgdaemon.service saying No such file or directory.
I could enable and start cmdagent, though, and it works. At least no errors yet.

Can I run this as root (gksu) at this point to be able to scan the whole filesystem?

I'm not sure why I put sgdagent or sdgdaemon in my last post, tiredness probably. You should start cmdagent, and cmgdaemon as you've found out.

You only need to start the agent as root, run the client (cav) as a normal user. You don't need cmgdaemon unless you want the mail gateway scanner, but in order to start it, you need to have a set of virus definitions first.

So the order you should start them for the first time is:

cmdagent.service -> /opt/COMODO/cav (update definitions) -> cmgdaemon.service (if you want the email scanner)

I've added this to the install file.

The drivers in driver.tar all are GPL licensed. (read drivers/*/COPYING) You should be able to bundle this updated driver.tar or extract, patch and repack.

Cheers for pointing that out. I feel a little uneasy replacing the shipped archive with this third party one though -- post_setup.sh has to be run as root, which means the module building is done as root. Worse still, the module building is done automatically, without any user prompting, so long as it finds the headers for the running kernel. I don't know if the tarball is trustworthy or not.

I might knock up a second PKGBUILD to build these modules separately. At least then you can build them as a normal user. Plus it'd be easier to put in kernel dependencies on the modules that way too, and have them tracked by pacman.

Maybe create a dkms package per module?
Edit: If you want trusted sources, start with the original source for redirfs and avflt or with comodos version and put the rest in as patches.

Ehh, someone else can make dkms packages or a nvidia-all style package if they want. I'll only support Arch's stock kernel, and possibly the -lts too. It's not a great solution, I'll admit. I think it's better than comodo's method, at least.

I've just updated the package and installed the comodo-modules as well, but I noticed that whatever settings change I made, they are not saved. Scan profiles, Scanner settings, Schedules, everything resets to default as soon as I close the settings window.

By the way, the file size limit is 20 MB default. Why's that and what are the recommended and the maximum values?

You'll have to ask Comodo about the defaults, they're nothing to do with me.

It seems that you need to open the client (cav) as root to change the permissions, since it saves the configuration to /opt/COMODO/etc/COMODO.xml. I'm guessing this is a design choice, since it prevents regular users disabling it.

If you have the client open as a regular user, close it and then use a privilege elevator (sux, gksudo, kdesu, etc) to re-open the client as root.
