Hi Folks, i'll be concise
Situation:
I got an eeePC 701, I installed ArchLinux in order to use it as a multimedia server, so I set up Samba and plugged in a HDD thru usb port (2.0 usb port)
Problem:
The transfer speed which i can check both with SAMBA and with "dd" (acting as a benchmark) is about 1 MBps standard speedrate of USB 1.1.
i) First step i took is of course change BIOS setting "OS Installation" to "finished", this makes me able to see the entry "usb 2.0" from the "lsusb" command
ii) still not working. then i tried to remove uhci_hcd (thru rmmod). this change turns my "lsusb" output like this:
Bus 001 Device 004: ID eb1a:2761 eMPIA Technology, Inc. EeePC 701 integrated Webcam
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0951:1606 Kingston Technology Eee PC 701 SD Card Reader [ENE UB6225]
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 14cd:6116 Super Top M6116 SATA Bridge
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
I report also few lines of "dmesg | grep usb" cmd:
[77140.139028] usb 2-1: new full-speed USB device number 2 using uhci_hcd
[77143.969217] usb-storage 2-1:1.0: USB Mass Storage device detected

[77145.195704] usb 2-1: reset full-speed USB device number 2 using uhci_hcd
iii) still not working
my basic questions in order to solve this issue are:
- how can I exactly match the mount point (/media/xxx) with the device name (/dev/sdxY) ?
- can i somehow disable usb1.1 connection?
Help me out please
Matteo

I assume you are talking about the SD card reader. Or are you talking about the SATA bridge?
If the former, please post the output of lsusb -s 3:1 -v If the latter, please post the output of lsusb -s 2:1 -v
You are right, nothing is connecting as high speed. All the devices seem to be full speed. Perhaps we should also look at the capabilities of the hub itself: lsusb -s 1:1 -v

for sure i'm not talking about SD Card Reader, i guess is SATA bridge, uhm, you know, i just plugged in the usb hard disk in a usb port.
however the commands "lsusb -s 3:1 -v" and "lsusb -s 2:1 -v" don't make any output
instead "lsusb -s 1:1 -v" prints this:

uuuhm okok maybe you meant "lsusb -s 1:2 -v" and "lsusb -s 1:3 -v"
oops. Sorry about that
Everything looks reasonable. The protocols are all 2.0.
Two other things to check. The internal web cam is also on the bus. if it is a 1.1 device, it could limit the bus speed to full speed. I cannot imagine they would have designed it that way. But let's check 1:4 as well.
Also, are you plugging those devices straight in to the port, or are you using a cable? Don't use extension cables, and use good quality cables. For high speed devices, keep the cables short (no longer than a meter)
