Share your Pantheon desktop!

Are you enthusiastic about Elementary OS's Pantheon DE?

Share screenshots of your Pantheon desktop!

Re: Share your Pantheon desktop!

Pantheon 3D is available in AUR

It's a mix of Elementary OS's  Pantheon DE (cerbere, wingpanel, slingshot-launcher, plank) and compiz.
I'm working on exporting my custom settings (gsettings are tricky).
Use ccsm to configure the window manager in Pantheon 3d
::UPDATE:: wingpanel-standalone-git: now shipping with autohide patch.

Startup: The initial appearance of the desktop is mostly empty; wingpanel autohides and has a transparent background; plank can also be set to autohide and use a "Transparent" theme.
pantheon_3d_startup.png pantheon_3d_transparent_autohide_plank_window_thumbs.png
"Thumbnail Window Previews" integrates seamlessly with Plank, and even provides thumbnails for (most) minimized windows (see "Workarounds" plugin).
Equirectangular skydomes can be used for three-dimensional backgrounds (animated skydomes).

"Grid": layout windows by drag-zone. (ie, top left quarter, lower half, left half, etc.)
pantheon_3d_grid.png

"Opacity, Brightness and Saturation": keep the current task on sceeen, while observing other tasks:
pantheon_3d_transparency.png
Set filters for some windows to add ie, transparent menus everywhere, and use a mouse-over hotkey to target and adjust opacity on the fly for keeping track of other tasks and (not) getting distracted.

"Desktop Cube" and "Rotate Cube": unobstructed multitasking:
pantheon_3d_compiz_sphere.pngdat accessibility friendly zoom feature
"Cube Reflection and Deformation" can wrap the desktops around a sphere as the cube rotates; the center of the field of view always being the most zoomed in.

EDIT: See it in action.

Re: Share your Pantheon desktop!

Pantheon Lite is available in AUR

It's a mix of Elementary OS's Pantheon DE (cerbere, wingpanel, slingshot-launcher, plank) and openbox.

Offscreen: Pantheon shell: super-wingpanel, slingshot-launcher, and plank individually autohide, all with transparent theming. This image is a composite, showing them all at once, which never happens. Openbox features a very handy desktop menu as well; but I feel it's redundant with pantheon. Transparency won't work without a compositor, but pantheon does.
arch_pantheon_lite.png
*Not in this image: a compositor, hence the black backgrounds on pantheon components.

Onscreen: Openbox also features multiple desktops and window decoration, although it runs lean enough for realtime and cpu intensive applications.
lineup_openbox.jpg
*Also in this image: openbox's desktop naming briefly shows which viewport is displayed.
*Not in this image: initial view, a 7680x1080p black void (4 workspaces, all interface elements autohidden).
**Theme is elementary-os-openbox.

"Aunt Suzy" mighr have trouble with the autohidden interface elements, but the openbox desktop menu (right click anywhere) is easy to find and autohide is optional (per user profile), as is adding compton to ~/.config/autostart/compton.desktop with OnlyShowIn=Pantheon.

::UPDATE:: Need to update these screenshots also; super-wingpanel is long dead.

Re: Share your Pantheon desktop!

Bad news: super-wingpanel, the split upper panel in the above screenshots, was abandoned by its author. I'm not sure if it is possible to back-port the changes from the new wingpanel. No more independently auto-hiding applications menu and system tray sad

this is due to inexperience with imgur and bbs.archlinux.org; i will try to do better.
::EDIT::

I had in mind one post per plugin to show off; setting each apart to avoid tl;dr. Too self-referentially absurd? Perhaps...; Yes and change of plans, this is now a pantheon shell desktop screenshots thread.

The sticky on this board has instructions for posting the correct image sizes.

I must endeavor to remember to read the documentation!

Re: Share your Pantheon desktop!

In analogy to the other threads, can we rename this one to Share your Pantheon Shell desktop?

It would be great to begin a collection for Pantheon, primarily because it is still so much under progress on Arch!

There's https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=152930 but it's not focused on screenshots.

Re: Share your Pantheon desktop!

@karol

I know. The last post there brought me to the idea of creating a respective thread in Artwork and Screenshots because the main thread is more focused around bug and issue tracing.

::snip:: This transparency issue deserves its own thread.

Re: Share your Pantheon desktop!

-Ofast enables unsafe math optimizations, check http://gcc.gnu.org/onlinedocs/gcc/Optimize-Options.html

You may want to turn it off and enable only on specific packages you know work with it.

that's the joke... the parameter is "-funsafe-math-optimizations". "-f" is used for code optimization parameters, this one specifies "unsafe-math-optimizations; "-f" and "un" are not intended to resemble the word "fun".

Irresponsible and unsound as it may seem, nearly everything "works" with "-Ofast". I've built most of the software on my pc with it (and worse).

Not everything works with fun, safe loop optimizations however.

Fun with Audience
Screenshot_from_2014_04_27_16_31_52.jpg
Using pavucontrol to set a volume level for mouse-over video seek preview.

EDIT: This is no longer possible sad it seems that the preview no longer has an audio stream at all.
That's probably the sensible thing to do for an end-user oriented video player, but I thought it was pretty cool that pulseaudio would allow you to have the preview audio on an entirely different audio device.

Re: Share your Pantheon desktop!

I almost posted this in AUR, but it isn't a package issue--then in the Pantheon Shell thread, but it's not a support or development question--and finally I concluded my goal is primarily to show off Pantheon Terminal's sexiness, which goes in the share thread yes?

I got so used to transparency being broken, it hadn't occured to me that anything had changed--until elementary-tweaks caused segfaults in wingpanel.

Transparency is back! The gsettings have been changed:
org.patheon.terminal.settings.background rgba(37, 46, 50, 0.8)
uWA5YFst.png

PS, apology: Is it too late for this thread? *still waiting for other people's pantheon desktops*
