Hello,

not very easy to register from a Windows7-Computer @work but with 'XXXXXXXXXXXX' I finally made it

I think this kind of register is okay because it seperates somehow the flock.

I came from Manjaro089 but wanted to be more flexible and now start to run into Arch.

We'll see, I like rolling releases, KDE and hope it will be a good experience to beeing here.

Just saying ' hello' encouraged by the sticky.
I have been using Arch as my sole home OS for the past few months and so far I am loving it.
I have rarely run into any serious problems and most of them have been solved by a short visit to the wiki.
Still lots to learn, which is part of the fun.

mastorak: i agree. lol i should be sleeping but i have been reading through some of the stuff in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=11728. really has been making me laugh. i think all the newcomers should check this out as a requirement.

Hello there!

My first Linux experience was with Linux Mint 14 dual-booted with my Windows 7 install. Fast forawrd around one and a half years and you find me switching to Arch Linux because of the control it gives me among other things. After a not-so-uneventful install (it took me a few tries to get the wi-fi working) armed with only the Arch Wiki, I'm now running Arch Linux as a triple boot with Windows 7 and Linux Mint 16 (which I plan to remove once I've settled into Arch). The only reason I keep Windows around is only because of Windows only stuff like iTunes and anything that I might use in the future.

I'm looking forward to using Arch as my main OS and becoming a part of the community. I'm loving it so far!

Hello! I am here because I am too bad to install Arch with encryption and lvm and a key file. I am not using arch because I can't install it the way I want it. I hope you guys can help me.

Hey folks. Long time archer, just didn't have an account here for some reason! My favorite things are linux, vim, git, and zsh (all free things, isn't life great?). I'd include a programming language in there but I suck at all of them, so I feel dumb picking one.

Though I have to admit I'm not very well versed in the os itself I am a big shell scripter, so maybe I can contribute a bit.

I love Arch, I love your Wiki and I love all you forum dwellers!

I completely moved to Linux November 2013, all pc's, home server, laptop, everything. A long time DOS/Windows I dipped into Linux for fun every once in a while, but Windows is a goner now . I started with Ubuntu, Mint, Debian, some Fedora and then SuSe. Tried them all, like them all except Ubuntu - not bad just not my cup of tea . During all this I found that no distribution is free of trouble; they all have something that doesn't work out of the box and eventually, something else goes haywire. The Arch wiki and these forums always gave me better support than anything else out there - even when I wasn't running Arch I almost always found something here that led me to the solution.

Since in my experience every distribution has its own share of problems I figured it wouldn't be different with Arch. I decided the horror stories were overrated so last night I took the plunge - I installed Arch! Backed up the system, wiped the disk and printed out the Beginner's guide. Less than an hour later the system was up and running - it was a breeze! I thought it was going to be hard and I was prepared to do some heavy troubleshooting in stuff I knew nothing about, but to my amazement the system just booted - I love it!

So, thanks for all the work you guys put into the wiki and these forums. Totally awesome!

Long-time Linux user. Brand new Arch user. I've been using Linux off and on since about 1999. I've used countless distributions, but the one I stuck with the longest was Gentoo. A year or so ago Gentoo really started biting me in the ass, falling over every time I did an emerge etc. So I used Mint for a while. Last week I installed Ubuntu and Gnome 3. And today I finally landed on Arch, installed it twice (once just to check it out and once for real).

I'm not saying I'm here to stay, but so far it seems to give me the best of both worlds (cutting-edge like Gentoo, but stuff just works like Mint).

So... welcome to me!

Been using Linux as my sole OS for 2 weeks and Arch for less than a week after Windows refused to reinstall and I was getting bored of it. Really glad to be a part of this great community and hope to continue being so for years to come.

I remember the first time I tried Linux I didn't really even know what it was or the basics so it was a complete and unspectacular failure. My interest was renewed after an interesting discussion on XDA about the Ubuntu Edge when it was announced although I had my doubts about it. I imagined the internal storage would have been a mess with Android, Ubuntu Touch and Ubuntu Desktop all manged together. Afterwards I started learning the basics of different Linux and FreeBSD distros in a controlled environment. Meanwhile I had found my dad's old single core Intel Atom netbook which struggled to browse even simple webpages. The speed I would say was comparable to a Raspberry Pi. Eventually the hard drive with Windows on it crashed but I managed to bring back to life after spending 4 days to reallocate a significant portion of the hard drive. Kali Linux was what I then choose to install on it since the wireless card was capable of packet injection. Managed to crack my own router pretty easily along with a few R9 280Xs in my mining rig which can crack at 135K passwords per second each. Other than that I didn't have much use for it besides playing a few downloaded Youtube videos for a total of 35 minutes of battery life.

My name is Brandon, I'm a Computer Science/Computer Systems Engineering student, currently in my junior year of college. I've been using Linux since high school and all of college, and I made the switch from Ubuntu to Arch a couple of months ago. My current setup is SLiM and i3, without a desktop environment. It's fast, efficient, and I couldn't be happier with it.

I have done more reading in the past few days than I have ever done so things are starting to blur now... I have managed to overcome quite a few obstacles such as configuring proprietary video driver to work with Steam and enabling fan + clock control. Getting VirtualBox to work properly, changing mouse sensitivity and remap buttons, adjust PWM fan speeds, etc. Still have quite a ways to go so hopefully the veteran here can help me along.

hi everyone,

i installed arch around 2006, and it remained my os till the machine broke down. i was using my univ computers till i got a new laptop some months back. it had ubuntu by default which i deleted after some days and got down to get arch working. it was a bit painful getting all the hardware working ( i'll buy my next laptop carefully :-P ), except an erratic bluetooth i have everything else working.

just wanted to say, i finally made the SWITCH! the install was a bit trick as i dont dabble with command line much... took me about 3 tries... the problem was the wlan0 network... it wasnt wlan0 like i imagined... but overall im able to gnome up my arch.... just a few problems i cant seem to figure out why... ill post in the appropriate thread... thanks for the well documented guide archCommunity (somewhat overkill though)
