DRI causes xorg to freeze on vterminal switch

Hi,

I use an ATI Radeon Mobility U1 graphics card, and I can get OK accelaration if I enable DRI in xorg.conf. However, when I do so I get a few strange problems:

1. X completely freezes on any vterminal switch. If I try switching to another vterminal (or even another X display) and back again, X will freeze completely, dragging all input devices down with it (in other words, the only thing left is to close the computer).
2. X also freezes if I (or a fullscreen game) change(s) the screen resolution.

Does anyone know what I can do about it?

Re: DRI causes xorg to freeze on vterminal switch

Are you using the latest ATI drivers - 8.21.7 ? If so, there is a issue with it - pretty much what you're describing. There is a patched version in the AUR unsupported repository named ati-drivers-arch.

I've got a lovely bunch of coconuts...

Actually, it's in [community] now... if you have that repo enabled in pacman.conf then you can just

pacman -Sy ati-drivers-arch

if you're using the stock kernel.

Re: DRI causes xorg to freeze on vterminal switch

I don't have ati-drivers-module installed. The driver I use is the free (as in speech) ATI driver that comes with xorg. AFAIK, the binary drivers don't even match my card.
