Hi all,
as you might tell from my footer my main PC is an AMD E350 with an integrated AMD 6310 GPU. Since I had severe issues one or two years ago with the integrated GPU I added a PCIe GeForce 9500GT.
I am currently thinking about moving the mainboard into a smaller ITX encasing which would mean that I have to dump the PCIe GeForce.
My questions to you fellow archers with a similar APU (e.g. AMD E450) what can I expect from the open-source Radeon in combination with the 6310 GPU ?
Does dual-head work nicely ? Does 3D acceleration work without hickup ? And even more important to me: Does video acceleration for 1080p stuff work on top of radeon via va-api and MPlayer ?
TIA,
D$

E450 here (has HD6320). As for what you asked …
1. 3D Acceleration: stellar improvements during the 3.11-3.13 timeframe. Still feels like it is at ~60-70% of the fglrx performance, but I can play Xonotic @ 50fps – which is a quite fast shooter. So yes, it definitely is usable. Also: definitely use glamor.
2. Dual head works fine (using the FOSS driver. Never tried fglrx).
3. va-api works with both the FOSS and proprietary driver. 1080p in regular x264 plays fine. hi10p-encoded videos don't play from 720p upwards though because it can't use hardware decoding, and the system is generally too slow to compensate for that.

Thanks a lot for your reply ! My 1080p stuff is rarely something special. Mostly either BD rips I did myself, stuff from Youtube and sometimes satellite recordings.
Sounds pretty much that I will need to invest some time again and play around with my E350 APU and radeon.
