I did a -Syu, saw the new Cinnamon. I then proceeded to snapshot my btrfs root vol, and went ahead with the upgrade. Rebooted, no desktop, just a gray screen with the pointer. I then booted off my install media, and mv'ed my snapshot back to replace my /
Unfortunately, that still somehow didn't fix it, which makes me think a conf is borked in my home dir (not in the snapshot). Nothing in the system journal.
Any ideas?

I know that a whole load of Cinnamon settings are being overwritten/ignored completely with this last upgrade.

just for fun, I mv'ed .config/ to .config.old/ and .local/ to .local.old/ and restarted mdm > same issue.

the snapshot thing was erroneous, I accidentally moved my snapshot inside of my root volume. That's fixed, and resolved the problem with snapshots. However, I'm sure that if I -Syu again, the Cinnamon issue is going to happen again. Any ideas from the forum?

I'm going to wait until these two are updated before I start reporting bugs, purely because it may just be that not all the updates have been pushed at the same time.

I didn't look carefully, so didn't realize settings-daemon wasn't updated yet... my bad probably and I agree with you.

So, even with the updated cinnamon-settings-daemon and cinnamon-control-center, I still can't get to a desktop with the cinnamon update. I'm having the same issue: gray screen and nothing in the system journal. Any ideas?

Same problem here with nvidia.

Same problem here with nvidia.
If I start X with startx, I can get to the desktop, but the icons are all weird sizes (DPI settings maybe?). I'm curious if anyone else is running dual monitor, or if there's anything else that might be in common?

So, I added the following to pacman.conf -

Same here with nVidia/Optimus setup. Something odd for me, though. If wait a minute or so and click (left and/or right) on the desktop, the background will come up. I will get a right-click menu when I right-click after that. One option there is "Open Terminal". If I click it, a terminal will flicker on the screen, then disappear. BUT...If I move my mouse over where that terminal "flickered", the cursor changes to an I-Bar (the text cursor). Clicking and typing a command -- like "poweroff" actually WORKS. Odd, huh? Does this happen for anyone else?

I was getitng the grey screen aswell, but it was not cinnamon the problem. The problem was the mdm-display-manager. I switched to sddm, and I can login with out any issues.
Offline
I am using SDDM already, FWIW.

bug report went nowhere, because MDM is not supported.

Could you please add/update that bug report, since sddm is supported?
