Wake On Lan issue

Hi everyone,

I try to set up a WOL on my PC and I encounter some issues.

First, when I shutdown my PC, my external drive continues to run (like all other USB ports).
When I shut it down from Windows, this problem is not existing.

I've pach this issue with this file :

/usr/lib/systemd/system-shutdown/usboff.sh
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
/usr/bin/echo -n "usb6" > /sys/bus/usb/drivers/usb/unbind

Where usb6 is my external drive port.

But I don't think that's the right way.

The second problem is, when I shutdown my computer for a while, the WOL stop working.
If I boot it and re-shutdown the WOL works again (for a limited time).
I check in the BIOS and in the driver config if there is an option "Allow PC to turn off LAN devices" or something like that. And there isn't.

I run on a dual boot Archlinux 1.4 and Windows 7.
My motherboard is a P8Z68V-PRO.

Thank you in advance for your answers

PS : sorry for my poor englih, I'm french

Re: Wake On Lan issue

WOL was always kind of hit&miss for me, too. Does it behave the same on windows and linux? You can use ethtool to get some information about the NIC, including WOL stuff.

Might this be a problem with some other part of your network, like a switch, router, cable, whatever?

Re: Wake On Lan issue

My guess is the fact that your router clean the ips of your network after some time, i had the exact same problem.
You can try to disable dhcp and use static ip, then if it resolve the problem, add a permanent dhcp lease for your mac adress.

(I'm French too, what is you isp ? )

Re: Wake On Lan issue

The WOL is set to g with ethtool, I try some other option, but nothing change.

About my router, I configure it to join my @mac with a specific local @ip.
I will try to disable dhcp.
