[SOLVED] No steam overlay

Hello, I have installed Steam from the multilib repo, but I can't get the steam overlay to work (in any game). Any clues as to why this is and how to fix it?

I know someone who fixed this by launching all of his games through "Big Picture" Mode. See if that works for you.

EDIT: Also, Alt+Tab didn't work for him unless he Shift+Tab-ed first and then Alt+Tab-ed from the steam overlay.
