Ya know, folks, not all of us happen to have CD burners handy! As a matter of fact, this is one of the reasons that I came to Arch in the first place... It allowed me to do an installation the only way I was able to. I'd really much prefer to have floppy support available in case for some reason I need to reinstall...

Well, I guess the floppy installers that are already here won't go away. Is there any other way you can install? Maybe you could copy the files for installation onto some other medium, then chroot into it from a floppy-based distro?

It's good you spoke up -- I wasn't sure if anybody out there actually used the floppies anymore. Don't worry, we can still provide a floppy method, but it will be considered the "off-the-beaten-track" option, and may not be covered as well in the docs. Right now the floppy- and CD-based installs are mostly identical, but in the future the CD install will change so the two will diverge.

That's good to hear. I always felt like the CD install was held back by the limitations of the floppy installs. I'd like to see a full arch kernel and bash running on the new CDs. busybox has given me problems when backing up data during an install.

Yea, I'd have to agree that we should keep floppy disk install around. I first tried out arch on a floppy install, because my cd drive was borked. It's a small way to have a wider audience.

Floppy install is still available, though the installer hasn't been updated in a while.
