0.7.1 install fails: no libsm

I've been using Arch for a while now, and have steadily upgraded it from 0.6 to 0.7.1 using pacman. Today I tried the new 0.7.1 iso, attempting to install it to a different partition, just to see how the install goes. I got stopped out after trying to install the entire package list with this error:

libsm not present in x11-libs repository

This occurs whether using FTP or CD.

I also notice that allowing Arch to install the packaged 2.6 kernel results in my printer (HP 3030) printing a blank page whenever I log in as user (it also happens when I log in as root). Rolling my own 2.6.15 kernel doesn't have this effect.

Re: 0.7.1 install fails: no libsm

Same thing here.  sad  I´m a newbie and I want to install from 0.7.1 iso but I can only install base packages because if try to install xorg it seems it did not find libsm. I look into the CD and this package exists under the xorg-lib folder but it appears to have an integrity problem.  :?

Any idea?

I just added this to Flyspray.  Usually, when there seems to be a fairly clear bug like this one, that's the best place to bring it up.  Devs pounce on Flyspray bugs like ferocious mountain-lions, but don't often check the forums, so this probably got missed.

Re: 0.7.1 install fails: no libsm

I just revisited this problem yesterday, trying an Arch Basic ISO installation, installing all non-Basic stuff via ftp. Eveything went fine. In fact, I now have a working Arch installation that has no problems with the pre-built 2.6 kernel. And hplip works with my HP 3030 All In One. Neither the pre-built 2.6 kernel nor hplip worked with my old installation, where I had to roll my own 2.6 kernels and use hpoj for my HP 3030.

no way to install arch, neither from ftp nor from cd.

I've got the same error. So I've installed only base pkg, and the apps I installed with pacman later.

Did you download the Base iso and use that, instead of using the Full iso and install only the base files?

No, I've used Full iso, and then I added it to pacman repos.

Well I got that error message only when using the Full iso and using pacman to add all but the Base apps. When I alternatively tried the Base iso, it all worked fine.

I've just acquired the full iso, I got the same problem. mckay, this is no reason for you not to run ArchLinux, I personally think that it's a lot less problematic than any other distribution thus far. It's pretty simplistic to install the packages after installing archlinux.
