Sorry for the necrobump but I got into a similar issue with Google Chrome while running spectrwm (v3.3.0). I've resolved my issue adding this quirks on my configuration files (~/.spectrwm.conf):

quirk[Google-chrome:google-chrome] = IGNORESPAWNWS

user@localhost $ grep -rnw "." -e "hacking"

This is a 6 years old thread... If you don’t have an issue and there’s no current similar thread then why the necrobump...
