Wake-on-LAN wakes computer twice

I have the following problem with Wake-on-LAN:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Send machine to suspend mode (S3).
2) Wake up via WOL.
3) Send machine to suspend mode (S3).
4) Machine wakes up immediately after going to suspend.
5) Send machine to suspend mode (S3). Machine suspends and stays suspended.

If not waken by WOL but USB event (e.g., keystroke), everything is fine.

Any idea what could be going wrong here?

Did you find a solution to this issue?  I seem to be having the exact same one.

You might tell us a bit more.  Which kernel? Make and model of your computer? Chip set of your network controller?

Re: Wake-on-LAN wakes computer twice

No solution yet.

Currently running linux-3.14.1-1 on a custom-built system. I have an Intel Core i7-3770S processor in an ASRock Z77 Extreme6 motherboard. I am using the on-board NIC; according to lspci, it is a "Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM57781 Gigabit Ethernet PCIe (rev 10)".

Re: Wake-on-LAN wakes computer twice

I am running a i7-4770 on a MSI H87-g43 motherboard.  I run Gentoo, but I am fairly convinced that this is a hardware/kernel interaction issue and little to do with the distro.  I've also installed Debian testing recently and the issue remained.

I have tried 3.12.x, 3.13.x, 3.14.x, and 3.15_rc3 all exhibit the issue.  I have even tried disabling the onboard NIC (r8169) and using a known good PCI NIC (Intel e100) and the issue persisted.  I've contacted MSI but their response is "we only support windows".

Nothing in /var/log/pm-suspend.log indicates an error, or why the system wakes immediately.  Looking in /sys/kernel/debug/wakeup_sources or suspend_stats did not shed any light.

Before I saw this post, I had resurrected a thread (the OP had this issue in 2012) on gentoo's forums (http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php? … 44#7532644) in case you wanted to try some of the suggestions there.

Re: Wake-on-LAN wakes computer twice

I have exactly the same issue on my ASRock H61M/U3S3 motherboard.

One thing to try is to contact the ethernet driver developers http://vger.kernel.org/vger-lists.html#netdev  If this is a kernel bug they should help with it.

Re: Wake-on-LAN wakes computer twice

I posted on netdev (http://marc.info/?l=linux-netdev&m=139898417909944&w=2) and was asked to post in linux-pm.

I did that (http://marc.info/?l=linux-pm&m=139899145411532&w=2), but to no avail yet.

Re: Wake-on-LAN wakes computer twice

Did you manage to fix this problem?

Did any of you contact some developers?

@op - What happens if you shutdown the machine?  Does it wake up after 3-5 sec?

Re: Wake-on-LAN wakes computer twice

Looks like the issue is resolved for me. I hadn't tested in several months until just now. Running linux-3.17.3-1.

@graysky: fwiw, when I shut down the machine after a WoL, it stays off.
