VLC doesn't like .mp4

VLC doesn't play the audio in some .mp4 videos I have. At first, I thought ffmpeg was compiled without support for faac/faad, but the PKGBUILD says it was. VLC gives me this when I play a file:

VLC media player 0.8.4a Janus
[00000304] main decoder error: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `mp4a'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

The video plays fine in xine.
BTW, running noodle, latest updates, no testing.
Please help, Thanks.

Re: VLC doesn't like .mp4

I can't get this to work, either. Is anyone able to play mp4 audio with vlc? I have every aac/mp4 related plugin and library installed. sad

Same problem here. But I use mplayer most of the time which plays AAC Audio just fine, so I doesn't really care.

Re: VLC doesn't like .mp4

After reading through some of the VLC forums, it would appear this is an upstream problem that VLC is trying to fix. For now, I'm stuck using mplayer.

Re: VLC doesn't like .mp4

Using ABS, I recompiled vlc-0.8.4a with the additional --enable-faad --enable-faac configuration flags and now I can watch my mp4s.  Hope that helps.  (I added  'faad2' 'faac' to the depends list)
