Normally I use lxdm, configured to log in automatically. Recently, I've tried to log off in order to log into an XBMC session. After giving the command, the whole system freezes up. I assumed it is an Xorg issue because I get the same response when I issue the "pkill x" command. I have since gotten rid of lxdm (de-activated it) and set up systemd to start the session, and start Xorg. Now when I issue the "pkill x" command, it effectively logs off, then loops around and restarts x. (this is because of the script I'm using to startx automatically, I know)
Has there been some change to Lxdm that I need to know about? I've tried re-installing it (with a fresh config file) and still get the same result.
I've always stuck with lxdm because it needs nothing else to work. Do I need to switch to Slim?
Hopefully someone can offer some insight.

Potentially similar to the issue reported here?

I have the same problem too.

last night I installed slim, and didn't have any problems, I also tried lightdm, and xlogin. they both logged out just fine, so it must be a bug with lxdm (potentially an Xorg compatibility issue)

@op - What if you build lxdm-git from the AUR? This fixed it for me.

Perhaps the package maintainer need to adopt a git version to the repo since several users have now reported this issue.

yea....apparently the lxde folks aren't keeping up with the Xorg and/or systemd folks.

how do we mark these threads solved? Or, are we not supposed to do that?

Have either of you taken a look at the git log to see if it's obvious what the problem was? If it's not obvious, a git bisect may be needed to identify where the problem was fixed so it can be applied to the official package.

No, I have not. I will check that out tomorrow. Thank you for that. I don't have a lot of experience dealing with git, except for the few times (yea...more than just this) the official package didn't work. No biggie though...I'll figure it out.
Ok...I've looked at the git page for the package. I'm just going to come out and say it: "I have no idea what I'm looking for." What exactly is a git bisect? I'd like to learn how to figure this stuff out.

Well....wouldn't ya know it?...
now all the sudden there's an entry at the bottom of the Lxdm Archwiki page detailing a config file that has to be edited if this happens.
I'm not going to try it right now. Perhaps someone else will.

@wchouser3 I tried adding that stuff mentioned at the bottom of LXDM Archwiki page to PostLogout. Does not help at all for me running openbox session from LXDM.

Well, I guess it's the Git version all the way then. I'm still running it and having no problems.
Thank you. I'm glad you said something. I was going to do a re-format and fresh install this weekend. Now I'll just skip the official package, and go straight for the Git version.

I just thought I'd drop in to say that after a fresh install of Arch (that time of the year) I forgot about my little problem with LXDM. I installed the officially supported version, and it works fine. I don't know if it was a compatibility issue do to an update, or what but after a fresh Arch Xfce install, it works fine.

This problem solved for me with the latest official version of LXDM 0.5.0-1 released on 2014-05-11. @wchouser3: Since it also works for you could you please mark this as solved.

Yeeeaaa.....how do I do that? I asked on another forum one time but nobody knew. This is the only forum I haven't figured it out with.
