id3tags renamed with amaroK not read properly by xmms

I use amaroK to update id3tags of my mp3 collection (with musicbrainz) so that all the id3 fields are filled ok, but when i open these files in xmms/bmp, the id3 seems to be garbled..

for eg.

in amarok : Red Hot Chili Peppers - Leverage of Space
in xmms/bmp : dHtCiiPpes - vrg fSae

Im not able to edit the id3's (v2 shows the garbled chars, v1 is ok, at least according to xmms file info) using xmms

any ideas? I need to use amarok cause I like my album covers

Just checked this in windows, and winamp seems to read the id3's fine. So the problem seems to be only in xmms/bmp... (gtk vs. qt maybe ?)

ok new problem...amarok doesnt retrieve id3tags from musicbrainz anymore..its just shows a busy icon and doesn do anything about it.

Apart from not having the sql dependency, is there any functional difference between amarok-base and amarok-base-mysqlfree?
