[SOLVED] Installing Arch x86_64 to HP Chromebook 14 Model 14-q013 4GB

Hello All,

I've had success installing a basic Arch system to my HP Chromebook 14 Model 14-q013sa 4GB, but only if selecting x686 instead of x86_64

The result is, (it's very early days, so please excuse any mistakes) Gnome reporting only 2GB RAM

free -m lists 2010 Total also.

I have tried pressing TAB on the x86_64 install and adding mem=4G or mem=4GB but it simply re-boots.

Any ideas at all for installing the 64bit version of Arch please?

Many thanks everyone.

It seems that chromebook has an  Intel® Celeron® 2955U processor  (http://store.hp.com/UKStore/Merch/Produ … U&sel=PCNB)

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celeron_2 … C_22_nm.29

Looks like it should be a 64-bit processor.

Disliking systemd intensely, but not satisfied with alternatives so focusing on taming systemd.

What happens when you try to install selecting x86_64?

Never assume. It makes an "ass" of "u" and "me".

I have the same problem here, with Chromebook Pixel.
Added mem=4G for the x86_64 iso of fedora 20 works fine,
just with the iso of archlinux it dosn't work. I try now with iso from
2013.04.01 and just now it works with mem=4G, what mean there
is something broke with 2014.05.01 iso.

As Yosef Or says, it simply skips install and reboots if you select x86_64 - I think Yosef Or may be onto something?

frazer, all what I see is actually the 2014.05.01 iso is broken for boot in Chromebook Pixel with x86_64.

https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ac … Chromebook

Or in short: the 2013.10.01 iso works with mem=1536m option to boot the image in 64bit mode.

Thanks everyone - especially to tumas for his succinct reply and very helpful links to research this further.
