SOLVED isolinux.bin missing or corrupt - error building persistent USB

Hi all,
I'm trying to create a persistent USB, following the instructions located:
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/In … _a_USB_key
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Installation_guide

My end goal is to have a thumb drive that i can plug into a computer, boot into Arch and save files, settings, etc.

I get through the instructions with very little fuss, but when I try to boot from the drive, I quickly see
isolinux.bin missing or corrupt
then the computer continues to boot like normal.

Here is some relevant information:
* I tried separate partitions for /boot and /. Originally I thought this was the problem. But I moved to a single partition, with no change.
* The partitions are/is ext4 so I can turn off journaling.
* I tried using UUID and device in fstab, but no difference
* I'm booting from a burned CD, then running all of the install stuff onto /dev/sdb. Have done this every time.
* I have been able to use this thumb drive with ISOs previously.
* I tried booting on two different computers with the same result
* I tried both grub and syslinux, same problem
* My first attempt was manually following the install instructions, detailed in the second link. But all my other attempts were using the arch-install-script as detailed https://www.archlinux.org/packages/?nam … ll-scripts

Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: SOLVED isolinux.bin missing or corrupt - error building persistent USB

I went back through, reformatted the usb stick to gpt and followed the manual instructions for syslinux. I noticed in the howto that there are issues with mbr and syslinux, and gpt and grub. When i had the correct combination of formatting and bootloader, i got around this issue. For me, that was gpt and syslinux.
